He suffered a heart attack as he was hiking at Big Bend National Park in Texas with friends.<\/p>\n<h2>Brunson&#8217;s Career<\/h2>\n<p>Brunson was originally a 29th round pick by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-mets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Mets<\/a> in the 1990 draft. He did not sign with the Mets and was drafted two years later in the 21st round by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/cincinnati-reds\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cincinnati Reds<\/a> in the 1990 draft. He did sign with the Reds but he never reached the major leagues with the team and was traded after the 1994 season to the Los Angeles Dodgers.<\/p>\n<p>Brunson made his major league debut during the 1998 season with the Dodgers. He was waived on September 6th and claimed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/detroit-tigers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Tigers<\/a>. After finishing the season with the Tigers he played the entire 1999 season with the Tigers organization. After the season he was granted free agency and signed with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/oakland-athletics\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oakland Athletics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He also played one season in triple-A with the Athletics organization in 2000. In 2001 he also played in triple-A as part of the then <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/los-angeles-angels\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anaheim Angels<\/a> organization.<\/p>\n<p>Brunson who is a left-handed pitcher only appeared in 27 Major League games. He had a 1-1 record with a 5.71 ERA and a 1.846 WHIP in 17 innings pitched.<\/p>\n<h2>More About Brunson<\/h2>\n<p>He attended and played baseball at Southwest Texas State which is where he met his wife Dana.\u00a0 He has also had jobs as a car salesman and also as a salesman in the oil industry. Since 2016 Brunson has been a scout with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/philadelphia-phillies\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> in the South Texas area.<\/p>\n<p>An official at Big Bend National Park released a statement on Monday confirming that Brunson showed the same symptoms as a heart attack. \u201cPark Rangers and paramedics from Terlingua Fire &amp; EMS immediately began CPR and administered shocks using an AED, but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Brunson, 49 was survived by his wife Dana and their two children Travis and Ella.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former MLB Pitcher Will Brunson Has Died Former MLB pitcher Will Brunson died this past Saturday.
