The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-mets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Mets<\/a> are supposedly down to the final five candidates who are now getting their third interviews. The San Francisco Giants also have been conducting second rounds for their opening. As for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/pittsburgh-pirates\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>,\u00a0no one seems to know what is going on in the Steel City. \u00a0Let&#8217;s look at the latest MLB manager rumors.<\/p>\n<h2>New York Mets<\/h2>\n<p>The Mets are down to five candidates. Those five are former Mets players <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogarti01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Bogar<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beltrca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlos Beltran<\/a><\/strong>, former MLB player <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=perezed01,perez-007edu&amp;search=Eduardo+Perez&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eduardo Perez<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/milwaukee-brewers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> bench coach\u00a0Pat Murphy, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/minnesota-twins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Twins<\/a> bench coach Blake Shelton. The only candidate that has actual managerial experience is Bogar. Bogar was the interim manager of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/texas-rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Texas Rangers<\/a> for 22 games back in 2014. Bogar also has been a minor league manager for five seasons with a record of 362-266.<\/p>\n<p>Perez who is the son of Hall of Fame player <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/perezto01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tony Perez<\/a><\/strong> has prior experience as a coach in the major leagues. Shelton and Murphy obviously have experience with both being bench coaches this past season. Only Beltran who is the favorite among the Mets fan base does not have one day of experience as a coach on any level.<\/p>\n<p>There is no time table on when the Mets will name their next manager. But this is the biggest decision that General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen will ever make.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mets actually have 5 who are still alive for manager: Shelton, Bogar, Perez, Murphy, Beltran. Not only was their second half of the season one of the worst in recent memory they had to endure not one but two embarrassing incidents centered around one of their best players. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/riverfe01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Felipe<\/strong> <strong>Vazquez<\/strong><\/a> fought with teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/crickky01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Kyle Crick<\/strong><\/a> which resulted in Crick missing the last two weeks of the season due to injury. On top of that Vazquez <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/2019\/09\/17\/pittsburgh-pirates-closer-felipe-vazquez-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">got into legal trouble<\/a> which can possibly end his career.<\/p>\n<p>As a result manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hurdlcl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Clint Hurdle<\/strong><\/a> was fired and team President Frank Coonelly was also fired. Once the Pirates hired a new team President in Travis Williams he promptly fired the General Manager Neal Huntington. So no one really knows if Williams will hire a new General Manager before he hires a new manager.<\/p>\n<p>The Pirates have spoken to nine candidates for their managerial opening. Four of those candidates are under consideration for other team openings. Derek Shelton, Matt Quatraro, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kotsama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Kotsay<\/a>, and Joe Espada are all considered finalists with the Giants and Mets. Kotsay is still viewed as a dark horse for the Giants opening.<\/p>\n<p>Athletics bench coach\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/chrisry01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ryan<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Christenson<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/st-louis-cardinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>\u00a0first base coach\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/clappst01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stubby Clapp<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/los-angeles-dodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>\u00a0bench coach\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lombage01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George Lombard<\/a><\/strong><strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/arizona-diamondbacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a>\u00a0director of player development\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=bellmi02,bellmi01&amp;search=Mike+Bell&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Bell<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and Pirates special assistant\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/banisje01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Banister<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0round out the nine candidates.<\/p>\n<h2>San Francisco Giants<\/h2>\n<p>The Giants are also now in their second round of interviews. The three confirmed names are Joe Espada, former Philadelphia Phillies manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kaplega01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Gabe Kapler<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> and Royals quality control coach Pedro Grifol. Kapler is a favorite of Giants President Farhan Zaidi.
