Well, the off season for all those teams that did not make the playoffs. We still have seven managerial openings across the MLB. With the candidate list starting to get smaller, four teams have finalized their searches to a precious few. Read below for the latest MLB Manager rumors.<\/p>\n<h2>Mets Final Four<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-mets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Mets<\/a> interviewed eight candidates. Only four of them have been asked back for a second interview. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/girarjo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Girardi<\/a><\/strong> is the choice of the fans. Girardi is the only remaining candidate that has actual major league managing experience. As a bonus, he was the manager of the cross-town <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-yankees\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Yankees.<\/a> Girardi is also a finalist for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/philadelphia-phillies\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>. The Mets insist that offers to Girardi by any other team will not speed up their hiring process.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bogarti01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Bogar<\/a><\/strong> is the only other candidate who has actual experience as a manager. However, that was in the minor leagues. Bogar also was the interim manager for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/texas-rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Texas Rangers<\/a> for 22 games in 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beltrca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlos Beltran<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=perezed01,perez-007edu&amp;search=Eduardo+Perez&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eduardo Perez<\/a><\/strong> are the other two finalists. Beltran is a former Mets player and potential Hall of Fame player. Perez is the son of Hall of Famer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/perezto01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tony Perez<\/a>.<\/strong> Beltran has never even been a coach before, while Perez does have prior experience as a major league coach.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hear Mets will not be rushed no matter where other searches stand. Philly seems further along, and Girardi has decent chance there \u2014 but word is an offer to anyone from another team won\u2019t speed up the Mets\u2019 process. Reportedly Beltran, Perez Bogar also still in Mets mix<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JonHeyman\/status\/1186323953830240258?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 21, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Philadelphia Freedom<\/h2>\n<p>The Phillies have only had three candidates, and those same three candidates still remain today &#8212; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/bakerdu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dusty Baker<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/showabu99.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buck Showalter<\/a><\/strong>, and Girardi. Showalter has ties to the Phillies front office from his days as the manager of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/baltimore-orioles\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baltimore Orioles<\/a>. Girardi is reportedly the choice of Phillies owner John Middleton. It was reported that Middleton made the call to fire <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/kaplega01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gabe Kapler<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Philly front office likes Showalter from Baltimore dats. But belief is owner John Middleton \u2014 who made the Kapler call \u2014 is leaning toward Joe Girardi. Girardi likely has good feel he\u2019s getting something since he left team USA. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thekapman?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@thekapman<\/a> suggested Phils job is Joe\u2019s to lose.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JonHeyman\/status\/1186326815452925952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 21, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Cubs King of the North<\/h2>\n<p>The rumors from the Windy City have the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/chicago-cubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Cubs<\/a> down to two candidates. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Ross<\/a><\/strong> is a former Cubs player and now the special assistant of baseball operations is one front runner. The other one is Joe Espada, who also has interest from at least two other teams, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/pittsburgh-pirates\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/san-francisco-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Francisco Giants.<\/a> Espada, however, is a little busy right now, serving as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/houston-astros\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston Astros<\/a> bench coach preparing for the World Series.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">David Ross and Joe Espada appear to be the frontrunners on the North Side of Chicago. The reported favorite is Jayce Tingler. Tingler is a player development executive with the Rangers. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=washiro01,washin002ron&amp;search=Ron+Washington&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Washington<\/a><\/strong> is also in the mix. Both candidates have ties to Padres General Manager AJ Preller when he was in the Rangers organization. Washington served as the manager of the Rangers from 2007-2014. Preller also worked closely with Tingler during his ten year career in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Many folks around baseball believe AJ Preller will pick Jayce Tingler, Rangers player development exec, to be the Padres next manager. Doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s a done deal, and Ron Washington, who Preller also knows from Texas, is also in the running.
