The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/philadelphia-phillies\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> officially joined the manager search late last week when they axed <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kaplega01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gabe Kapler<\/a><\/strong>. That makes eight teams <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/2019\/10\/07\/mlb-manager-rumors\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">looking for a new skipper<\/a> and all have officially started interviewing candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the latest MLB manager rumors to make the rounds.<\/p>\n<h3>The City of Brotherly Love<\/h3>\n<p>The Philadelphia Phillies spent a lot of money bringing in new players for the 2019 season. This includes their crown jewel of signing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harpebr03.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bryce<\/strong> <strong>Harper<\/strong><\/a> to a ten-year contract. Phillies management expected a winning season. This did not happen and it cost Kapler his job. The rumors swirling around Philly indicate that a veteran manager will be their next hire.<\/p>\n<p>The two names being mentioned are <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=bakerdu01,baker-000dus&amp;search=Dusty+Baker&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dusty Baker<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/showabu99.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buck Showalter<\/a>. <\/strong>Baker has a career record as a manager of 1,863 and 1,636 across 22 seasons and four different teams. Baker has led his teams to seven division titles and one World Series appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Showalter&#8217;s career record is 1,551 and 1,517 spanning 20 years. Buck has two division titles under his belt and was the first-ever manager of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/arizona-diamondbacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a>. Showalter knows how to build teams but is often criticized for not winning the big one. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-yankees\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Yankees<\/a> and the Diamondbacks won the World Series in the first year after Showalter was fired.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/girarjo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Joe<\/strong> <strong>Girardi<\/strong><\/a> who is on every team&#8217;s list of potential candidates will also interview this week. Girardi has a career record of 998 and 794. Girardi also has won three division titles and one World Series championship. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sciosmi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mike<\/strong> <strong>Scioscia<\/strong><\/a> is another potential candidate. Scioscia spent 19 seasons all with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/los-angeles-angels\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Angels<\/a> and went 1650 and 1428. Showalter meeting first reported by @JSalisburyNBCS.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ken_Rosenthal\/status\/1183468671303213056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 13, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3>The King of Queens<\/h3>\n<p>The first round of interviews to be conducted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-mets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Mets<\/a> will include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bellmi02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mike <\/strong><strong>Bell. <\/strong><\/a>Bell is the director of player development with the Diamondbacks. <strong>Derek<\/strong> <strong>Shelton<\/strong> is also getting an interview. Shelton is the bench coach for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/minnesota-twins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Twins<\/a>. Former Mets outfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beltrca01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Carlos<\/strong> <strong>Beltran<\/strong><\/a> and Joe Girardi also will be interviewed. Bell is the son of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bellbu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Buddy<\/strong> <strong>Bell <\/strong><\/a>and the grandson of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bellgu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Gus<\/strong> <strong>Bell. <\/strong><\/a>He is also the brother of current <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/cincinnati-reds\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cincinnatti Reds<\/a> manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bellda01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>David<\/strong> <strong>Bell<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It would not be the Mets if there wasn&#8217;t a mystery candidate coming in for an interview. The Met fan base wants a manager with experience instead of another first-year manager. Beltran has drawn interest from other teams such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/san-diego-padres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Diego Padres<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/chicago-cubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Cubs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Carlos Beltran said the Padres and Cubs want to interview him for manager job, but he isn\u2019t going to take the meetings. He only wants the Mets job. \u201cI\u2019m ready,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Anthony Rieber (@AnthonyRieber) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AnthonyRieber\/status\/1183515998886006784?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 13, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3>Pirates New Captain<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/pittsburgh-pirates\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> are said to be looking at four candidates. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/fuldsa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sam<\/strong> <strong>Fuld<\/strong><\/a> is the Major League player information coordinator for the Phillies.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/banisje01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jeff<\/strong> <strong>Banister<\/strong> <\/a>is the former manager of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/texas-rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Texas Rangers.<\/a> Banister in four years has a record of 325 and 313 with two division titles.<\/p>\n<p>The other two names include Bell and Shelton. His name is <strong>Jayce<\/strong> <strong>Tingler<\/strong>. Tingler is the Major League Development Field Coordinator for the Rangers. Padres GM AJ Preller&#8217;s close relationship with Tingler is said to be a huge factor. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/washiro01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ron<\/strong> <\/a><strong>Washington\u00a0<\/strong>is still said to be the favorite as of now. The three names are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>David<\/strong> <strong>Ross<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/loretma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mark<\/strong> <strong>Loretta<\/strong><\/a>, and Girardi. Both Girardi and Ross have played for the Cubbies. Ross was part of the 2016 World Series Championship team. Ross is currently a special assistant to General Manager Theo Epstein. Loretta is currently the bench coach for the Cubs. Girardi has been working in the booth for the American League playoff games on FOX.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/houston-astros\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston Astros<\/a> bench coach Joe Espada will also be interviewed this week along with Kapler. The rumors swirling around the Cubs suggests they want to stay within the organization. Maddon to the Angels is not official yet. The Angels are doing their due diligence and have interviewed other candidates. Former <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/toronto-blue-jays\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/boston-red-sox\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Red Sox<\/a> manager\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/farrejo03.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>John<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Farrell<\/strong><\/a> has interviewed with the Angels. Farrell has a seven-year record of 586 and 548. Farrell has also won three division titles and one World Series championship.<\/p>\n<p>The Angels also interviewed Johnny Washington and Showalter. Pedro Grifol who is the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/kansas-city-royals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Royals<\/a> quality control and catching coach was also interviewed. Another candidate who was interviewed is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kotsama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mark<\/strong> <strong>Kotsay<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Giants who had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/giants\/shea\/article\/Whom-will-Giants-hire-as-manager-Breaking-down-14494887.php\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">list of 10 candidates<\/a> added Kapler once he became available.
