The manager rumors are already beginning to swirl. In this day and age of analytics, more first-year managers are having successful seasons. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/boston-red-sox\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Red Sox<\/a> manager <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/coraal01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Cora<\/a><\/strong> won the world series in 2018 as a first-year manager. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/baldero01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rocco Baldelli<\/a><\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/minnesota-twins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Twins<\/a> won 100 games this season in his first year as a big-league manager.<\/p>\n<p>The current trend is to not hire the older former managers who are successful. This is due partly to the salary these managers will command. Also, general managers want more control over how the team is run.<\/p>\n<p>The seven teams looking for new managers are the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-mets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Mets<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/pittsburgh-pirates\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/los-angeles-angels\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Angels<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/kansas-city-royals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Royals<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/chicago-cubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Cubs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/san-diego-padres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Diego Padres<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/san-francisco-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Francisco Giants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Big Apple Dreams For\u00a0Girardi<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you have been watching the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/houston-astros\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Houston Astros<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/tampa-bay-rays\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> ALDS games on FS1 you would have heard references made about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/girarjo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Joe Girardi<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s interest in becoming the Mets skipper. It actually sounds like Girardi is heading back to the Big Apple. Girardi managed the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-yankees\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Yankees<\/a> for 10 seasons before he was let go after leading his team to the seventh game of the ALCS in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>No doubt Girardi would love to lead the Mets to a championship and stick it to the Yankees in the process. Girardi does have an interview with the Cubs set up. Girardi debuted with the Cubs and spent seven seasons across two stints on the South Side.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Joe Girardi, who has Cubs interview coming up, is said keenly interested in Mets as well. Both big market teams bring chance to win and he has roots in both cities. One thing: Cubs appear likely to stay in-house, Mets wide open. Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen inherited Callaway so this is his first time hiring a manager on at any level.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=bakerdu01,baker-000dus&amp;search=Dusty+Baker&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dusty Baker<\/strong><\/a> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/showabu99.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buck Showalter<\/a><\/strong> are two very experienced managers who have thrown their names into the mix already. Also, former Met players such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=francjo01,franco004joh&amp;search=John+Franco&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Franco<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beltrca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlos Beltran<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/coneda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Cone<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcewijo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe McEwing<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wrighda03.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Wright<\/a><\/strong> are also reportedly being interested in becoming the next Mets manager. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=rojas-007lui&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luis Rojas<\/a><\/strong> is also a candidate worth mentioning due to his high regard within the Mets organization.<\/p>\n<p>Other <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/10\/06\/next-step-in-mets-managerial-search-isnt-so-simple\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">potential managerial candidates<\/a> include <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/corajo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joey Cora<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/actama99.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manny Acta<\/a>.<\/strong> Both have close ties to top Mets executive Omar Minaya. One huge factor in the Mets manager search is the salary they are willing to pay. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/randowi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willie Randolph<\/a> <\/strong>was the last Mets manager to make as much as two million dollars a season. Randolph last managed for the Mets over 10 years ago. The Mets have not confirmed any interviews with any candidates as of yet.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The War For Maddon<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>When <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/maddojo99.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Maddon<\/a><\/strong> and the Cubs parted ways two potential suitors have shown interest in the manager. A lot of baseball people are saying that Maddon to the Angels is all but done. But that is not stopping the Padres from wooing Maddon to San Diego. The Angels fired <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/ausmubr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brad Ausmus<\/a><\/strong> when Maddon became available. The Padres fired <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/greenan01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy Green<\/a><\/strong> before the season ended and reportedly had a list of five candidates they were looking into. Once Maddon became available he moved to the top of the list.<\/p>\n<p>Those five candidates on the Padres list are former managers <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bochybr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bruce Bochy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sciosmi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Scioscia<\/a>,<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=washiro01,washin002ron&amp;search=Ron+Washington&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Washington<\/a><\/strong> along with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/aloumo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moises Alou<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/loretma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Loretta<\/a><\/strong>. The Angels seem to be in Maddon or bust mode. Current coach Mark Loretta already had an interview. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/venabwi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Will Venable<\/a><\/strong> and former Cub <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Ross<\/a><\/strong> will have their interviews this week. General Manager Theo Epstein has stated he would be more comfortable with a manager who has done it before. The San Francisco Chronicle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/giants\/shea\/article\/Whom-will-Giants-hire-as-manager-Breaking-down-14494887.php\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has a list of ten possible candidates<\/a> based on Zaidi\u2019s comments. The internal candidates are <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/meulehe01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hensley Meulens<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wotusro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Wotus<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the external candidates is Maddon.
