The second home run was his first career grand slam, capping a five-run bottom of the seventh.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Diamondbacks Strike First, but Padres Open Big Lead<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The first inning saw only one hit, that being a one-out triple by Padres left fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=,myerswi01&amp;search=Wil+Myers&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wil Myers<\/a><\/strong>. In the top of the second, the Padres started things off with consecutive singles by second baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/francty01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ty France<\/a><\/strong> and shortstop <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/u\/uriaslu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luis Urias<\/a><\/strong>, but neither scored. Catcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hedgeau01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Austin Hedges<\/a><\/strong> struck out, and, after starting pitcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=richaga01,richar002gar&amp;search=Garrett+Richards&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Garrett Richards<\/a><\/strong> bunted the runner over, center fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/margoma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manuel Margot<\/a><\/strong> also struck out. The Diamondbacks got on the board in the bottom of second on Walker\u2019s solo homer.<\/p>\n<p>In the top of the third, the Padres pulled ahead thanks to a leadoff walk by Myers, who was on base when third baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/machama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manny Machado<\/a><\/strong> hit a two-run homer two batters later. Urias added a solo shot in the fourth, making the score 3-1. It became 4-1 in the top of the sixth when France hit a one-out double and scored on a single by Urias.<\/p>\n<p>The Diamondbacks, meanwhile, did not get their second hit until the third baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lambja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Lamb<\/a><\/strong> hit a one-out double in the bottom of the sixth. They found themselves in a deeper hole when Padres first baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hosmeer01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Hosmer<\/a><\/strong> hit a solo homer to the right field bleachers in the top of the seventh, making the score 5-1 as the fans sang \u201cTake Me Out to the Ballgame.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Diamondbacks Plate Five, Hold on for Victory<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Everything changed in the bottom of the seventh. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bednada01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Bednar<\/a><\/strong> had come in from the bullpen for the Padres, and with one out, trouble began as catcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/avilaal01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Avila<\/a><\/strong> drew a walk. A single by pinch hitter <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/leybado01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Domingo Leyba<\/a><\/strong> brought up <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dysonja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jarrod Dyson<\/a><\/strong> with runners on first and second. His double into the left field corner plated Avila and advanced Leyba to third, and when left fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rojasjo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Rojas<\/a><\/strong> followed with a walk, that loaded the bases for the ever-dangerous <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/escobed01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eduardo Escobar<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When Escobar hit a liner toward short, the fans briefly grew excited. However, they let out sighs of disappointment when Urias gloved it for the second out. That brought up Walker. On the third pitch, he ripped a deep drive to the bleachers in left center field for a grand slam. It gave the Diamondbacks a 6-5 lead \u2013 their first of the game. The Padres got the tying run on base in the top of the ninth with a two-out pinch-hit double by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mejiafr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Francisco Mejia<\/a><\/strong>, but it went for naught as Myers followed with a game-ending fly to center.<\/p>\n<p>Reliever <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sherfji01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmie Sherfy<\/a><\/strong> (1-0) earned the win in relief. Bednar (0-2) took the loss, while <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/ginkeke01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Ginkel<\/a><\/strong> pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.
