Though the record after the All-Star break is disappointing, Sox fans all knew this was coming. The target year of the White Sox Rebuild has always been 2020 and beyond. A team that has <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cordery01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Cordell<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sanchca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yolmer Sanchez<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/castiwe01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Welington Castillo<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jayjo02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jon Jay<\/a><\/strong>, etc. all getting consistent playing time was never expected to contend in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">The Prospects<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is light ahead. <strong>Ryan Cordell<\/strong> will turn into<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=robert001lui&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luis Robert<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>Yolmer Sanchez<\/strong> will turn into <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=madrig000nic&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Madrigal<\/a><\/strong>. <strong>Welington Castillo<\/strong> will turn into one of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/colliza01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zack Collins<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=merced000yer&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yermin Mercedes<\/a><\/strong> or even a free agent. <strong>Jon Jay<\/strong> will be replaced by one of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=ruther000bla&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blake Rutherford<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=gonzalu02,gonzalu01,gonzal024lui,gonzal030lui,gonzal012lui,gonzal031lui,gonzal018lui,gonzal028lui&amp;search=Luis+Gonzalez&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luis Gonzalez<\/a><\/strong>,<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=adolfo000mic&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Micker Adolfo<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=basabe000lui\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Luis Basabe<\/strong><\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=walker005ste&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Steele<\/strong> <strong>Walker<\/strong><\/a>. Looking ahead to that lineup, there really isn\u2019t a single weak spot to find.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And there lies the evidence that the White Sox rebuild is still right on pace. Injuries may be stacking up at the moment, and the current major league team may be underperforming, but all the key pieces are doing as good or better than fans could want.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">The Current Team<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/giolilu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lucas Giolito <\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has become the top of the rotation guy that White Sox fans envisioned when he was acquired a few years ago. He\u2019s regressed a little bit with a 4.01 ERA post All-Star break, but that\u2019s likely due to fatigue because of a completely different arm angle than he\u2019s been used to before this year. He\u2019ll continue to improve as he gets stronger with his newer arm angle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/moncayo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yoan Moncada<\/a><\/strong> looks like a perennial all-star already. &#8220;<em>#Bustcada<\/em>&#8221; appears to be a thing of the past. Instead, he\u2019s shown why he was the number one prospect in baseball just two years ago. Currently hitting .301\/.358\/.535, Moncada is showing that he can be the cornerstone on a World Series contender.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anderti01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Anderson<\/a><\/strong> had the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/2019\/04\/29\/tim-anderson-fueling-chicago-white-sox\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">best month<\/a> of any White Sox in recent memory through March\/April. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He\u2019s no doubt becoming the heart and soul of this team and is showing what kind of leader he can be. Coming off his most recent injury, he\u2019s been on fire, improving his batting average 15 points in his last 18 games.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Coming Out of Nowhere<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mccanja02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">James McCann<\/a><\/strong> came out of nowhere to become the second-best catcher in the American League and is still only 29 years old. With the catcher position consistently being the worst offensive position on almost every single team, it\u2019s refreshing to see a guy on this squad putting up the numbers that McCann is. He definitely regressed after the All-Star break, as pitchers have been learning how to adjust to his new approach, but has been heating back up. He\u2019s posted a .364\/.407\/.600 line in his last 15 games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lopezre01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reynaldo Lopez<\/a><\/strong> has turned a corner since the All-Star break. Just as he said he would, Lopez found the problem that was plaguing him nearly every start in the first half of 2019. As a result, he has turned in three terrific starts in a row. His pitch location has improved dramatically, and his offspeed pitches have seemingly developed even more movement as of late. He\u2019s thrown to the tune of a 2.91 ERA over his last seven games and seems to get better with each start.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Going Forward<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, the core looks to be in good standing. There are aspects with some question marks, but still showing positive signs. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/ceasedy01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dylan Cease <\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been great in almost every outing minus his one bad inning per start. He currently has a 6.43 ERA in the first inning and a 12.86 ERA in the second inning. After he gets out of the first two, his overall numbers improve drastically.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bullpen has three new studs throwing terrifically in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bummeaa01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Bummer<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/colomal01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Colome<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/marshev01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Evan Marshall<\/a><\/strong> with the continuously improving <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/fryja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jace Fry<\/a><\/strong>. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bummer, currently carrying a 1.1 WAR, is now the most reliable guy in the bullpen and seems to get a ground ball every time he needs one. He gives the team a much needed 8th inning option and could very well be the closer of the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only position that might be of concern in the immediate future would be right field. That position could very well be <strong>Steele Walker\u2019s<\/strong> in the long term. For now, though, White Sox fans should look towards a pretty decent outfield free-agent market for help. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/casteni01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Nicholas<\/strong> <strong>Castellanos<\/strong><\/a>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/o\/ozunama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcell Ozuna<\/a><\/strong> or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/puigya01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yasiel Puig<\/a><\/strong> would look great out in right field over the next few years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, have some faith in Rick Hahn and the rest of the front office, Sox fans.
