Considering the fact that pitchers are bound to be overpaid this offseason, this is a great deal for the Angels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/player\/445926\/jesse-chavez\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chavez has started in year&#8217;s past with the <b>Oakland Athletics<\/b>, but last year he served as a reliever for both the <b>Toronto\u00a0Blue Jays<\/b> and the <b>Los Angels Dodgers<\/b>.\u00a0He recorded a mediocre 4.43 ERA, while logging 67 innings in 2016.<\/a> He is not a dominant pitcher by any stretch, but his ability to start and relieve interchangeably make him a valuable asset. The Angles situation with their current free agent pitchers also makes Chavez a good get.<\/p>\n<p>Starting pitchers <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/weaveje02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jered Weaver<\/a><\/b> and <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wilsocj01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">C.J. Wilson<\/a><\/b> are both on the free agent market, and are unlikely to return to the Angels next season. As a result, it appears Chavez will be plugged into the rotation. If the Angels pull off a trade, or sign a couple pitchers, Chavez could become a long man out of the bullpen.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of potential pitching targets, <strong>Philadelphia\u00a0<\/strong><b>Phillies<\/b> arm <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hellije01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremy Hellickson<\/a><\/b>, <strong>Kansas City\u00a0<\/strong><b>Royals<\/b> righty <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/volqued01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edinson Volquez<\/a><\/b>, and Dodgers lefty <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hillri01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rich Hill<\/a> <\/b>could be players who the Angels may pursue.
