This is thanks in part to this historic home run streak which has landed the team <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/stats\/batting\/_\/league\/al\/sort\/homeRuns\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">five players in the top 11<\/a> for the American League.<\/p>\n<p>While the team made a flurry of moves this offseason with the notion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/2018\/12\/03\/mariners-set-sights-on-2021-by-dealing-cano-diaz-and-segura\/38667849\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to build a contender for 2021<\/a>, some of their acquisitions are paying early dividends. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bruceja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jay Bruce<\/a>, acquired from the New York Mets, currently leads the team with seven home runs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/encared01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edwin Encarnacion<\/a>, acquired from the Cleveland Indians, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beckhti01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tim Beckham<\/a>, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays, each have four home runs.<\/p>\n<p>With Gordon\u2019s home run, <a href=\"http:\/\/seattle.mariners.mlb.com\/stats\/sortable.jsp?c_id=sea#elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&amp;tab_level=child&amp;click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&amp;game_type=&#039;R&#039;&amp;season=2019&amp;season_type=ANY&amp;league_code=&#039;MLB&#039;&amp;sectionType=sp&amp;statType=hitting&amp;page=1&amp;ts=1555013224751&amp;sortColumn=hr&amp;sortOrder=&#039;desc&#039;&amp;extended=0\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">11 different Mariners<\/a> have now hit at least one home run this season.<\/p>\n<h2>Outlook<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/\/2019\/04\/09\/seattle-mariners-hot-start\/\" target=\"_self\">The Mariners have been on an impressive run thus far<\/a>, although it is still too early to tell if the team will be a serious contender in 2019. They have reaped the fortunes of an easy April schedule featuring teams that either project to be subpar or are off to slow starts.<\/p>\n<p>So far, they have played the Oakland A\u2019s, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago White Sox, and now the Royals. Entering play Thursday, these teams have a collective record of 15-33. Only the Angels (7-6) and A\u2019s (9-8) have winning records out of that group.<\/p>\n<p>It will be interesting to see if the Mariners can keep this offensive production going once they face teams that are playing much better than their current competition. While a team&#8217;s play in April is an important step to having a good year, the final record does not always reflect the start of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Take last season for reference &#8212; the Mets started last season 11-1 although they finished 77-95.
