Polanco finished the night 5 for 5 with one run scored and one RBI. He sealed the deal with a double down the left field line to lead off the seventh inning of a road game against the Philadelphia Phillies.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Twins\u2019 Polanco hits for 2019\u2019s 1st cycle\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XYdWb7AQ3j4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Polanco becomes the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/players-who-hit-for-the-cycle-c265552018\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">15th player in Twins\u2019 franchise history<\/a> to hit for the cycle. He is the first Twin to hit the cycle since 2009 when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kubelja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason Kubel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cuddymi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Cuddyer<\/a> both accomplished the feat 35 days apart.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2009\/04\/17 Kubel hits for cycle\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D_FSSWLanPE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Cycle History<\/h2>\n<p>The cycle has been a popular feat over the previous couple of seasons. Polanco\u2019s night brings the total number of cycles since April 2017 to 13. That number includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holtbr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock Holt<\/a>\u2019s postseason cycle against the New York Yankees in Game Three of the ALDS last season.<\/p>\n<p>Having accomplished this feat in the sixth game of the season, Polanco sets himself up nicely to make more history before the end of the year. Of all the men to have hit for the cycle, only 26 have done it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/players-who-hit-for-multiple-cycles-c295035814\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more than once<\/a>. Of those 26, only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hillaa01,hill--002aar&amp;search=Aaron+Hill&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Hill<\/a> in 2012 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/y\/yelicch01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christian Yelich<\/a> in 2018 have done it twice in the same season. Polanco now has 156 chances to join Hill and Yelich on that selective list.<\/p>\n<h2>Paying Dividends<\/h2>\n<p>Prior to the season, the Twins gave Polanco a five-year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlbtraderumors.com\/2019\/02\/twins-extend-jorge-polanco.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">extension<\/a> worth $25.75 million. While it is still early in the season, he looks to be justifying that extension with his on-field play. His career night brings his season batting average to .423. Entering the night, Polanco\u2019s career slash line sat at .272\/.330\/.421 in 293 games played.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this performance was not enough to lift the Twins over the Phillies, losing the game 7-4.
