The <b>Los Angeles Dodgers<\/b> have agreed to trade second baseman <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kendrho01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Howie Kendrick<\/a><\/b> to the <b>Philadelphia Phillies<\/b>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Phillies?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Phillies<\/a> announce acquisition of OF\/INF Howie Kendrick from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Dodgers?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Dodgers<\/a> for 1B Darin Ruf and 2B Darnell Sweeney.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ken_Rosenthal\/status\/797187273834065920?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 11, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Phillies Acquire Howie Kendrick<\/h2>\n<p>The Dodgers have to focus on re-signing some of their own free agents including third baseman <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/turneju01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Turner<\/a><\/b> and closer <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/janseke01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenley Jansen<\/a><\/b>, so dealing Kendrick gives them some flexibility.\u00a0By trading away Kendrick, the Dodgers are not only get his $10 million salary\u00a0off the books, they are getting two infielders who can provide depth; they will receive first baseman\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rufda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darin Ruf<\/a><\/b>\u00a0and second baseman <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sweenda02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darnell Sweeney<\/a><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Phillies receive Kendrick, and he&#8217;ll likely find a role rather quickly. He will likely start at second base, but he&#8217;s also capable of playing other positions. In addition to second base, Kendrick played first base and left field for the Dodgers; however, while his versatility is a huge asset for any club, Kendrick\u00a0took a step back\u00a0at the plate last season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/player\/435062\/howie-kendrick\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">He hit .255, hit 8 homers, and drove in only 40 runs. That is the lowest Kendrick has hit in his career, and 40 RBI&#8217;s\u00a0is the fewest amount of runs he&#8217;s driven in since 2008.<\/a>\u00a0Throughout the better part of his career, he has been a guy who can get on base, provide some power in spurts, and be a consistent bat in the order; however, last season is a bit worrying for what next season and the years to come will being for Kendrick.
