Players chasing important milestones can energize themselves, their team and of course the fans. Listed below are likely milestones to be achieved by Red Sox players during the 2019 season.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #111111; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 32px;\">Potential Red Sox Batting Milestones in 2019<\/span><\/h3>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1,000 Hits: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/martijd02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J.D. Martinez<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Martinez needs only seven more hits and will easily reach this milestone less than a week after opening day. The Red Sox start off playing eleven games in a row, I believe Martinez will hit the mark in his fifth game, the first of the series in Oakland. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Much farther away is fellow Red Sox <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/morelmi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mitch Moreland<\/a> needing 143. 143 puts Moreland on track for 1,000 in fairly early into the 2020 season. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Historically, members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/boston-red-sox\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Red Sox<\/a> are successful hitters. Hall of Famers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/speaktr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tris Speaker<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/y\/yastrca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carl Yastrzemski<\/a> are both in the all-time top ten. Speaker sits at fifth with 3,514 and Yastrzemski at ninth with 3,419. More recently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/boggswa01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wade Boggs<\/a> is on the list at 30th with 3,010.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only active players in the top 50 are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/suzukic01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ichiro Suzuki<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pujolal01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Albert Pujols<\/a> positioned at 23rd and 24th with 3,089 and 3,082 hits respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prediction: 4\/3 at Oakland <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1,000 Total Bases: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pearcst01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Pearce<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bradlja02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jackie Bradley Jr.<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both Sox are likely to reach this milestone this season. Pearce needs 31 while Bradley is an even 100 away. Pearce is very tricky to predict due to the fact that he platoons instead of being a starting player. I will give Pearce an optimistic prediction, reaching 1,000 bases by the end of April. Bradley is in a similar position during inter-league play when Martinez breaks up the killer B outfield. My prediction is that Bradley will reach this milestone by the All-Star Break.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another category with Yaz in the top ten, many other Red Sox can also found atop the list. Red Sox alumni such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/speaktr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tris Speaker<\/a> (again) at 18th, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willite01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ted Williams<\/a> at 24th, and the much more recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=ramirma02,ramire007man,ramire009man&amp;search=Manny+Ramirez&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manny Ramirez<\/a> at 29th and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/o\/ortizda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Ortiz<\/a> at 31st.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two current players in the top 50 career total bases. They are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pujolal01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Albert Pujols<\/a> at ninth with 5,656 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cabremi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miguel Cabrera<\/a> at 42nd with 4,661. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prediction: Pearce &#8211; 4\/30 vs Oakland, Bradley &#8211; 7\/7 at Detroit<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">400 Doubles: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pedrodu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dustin Pedroia<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Pedroia likely to see a substantial amount of action this season Baseball Reference predicts he will play half the season and record 11 doubles. Pedroia is only six away from the milestone at 394 doubles. Like Bradley\u2019s total bases benchmark, Pedroia can reach his milestone before the All-Star Break.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, the 394 doubles is good enough to put him among the top 200 all-time and at an exact tie with former Red Sox <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lowelmi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Lowell<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/aparilu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luis Aparicio<\/a>. Upon reaching this milestone Pedroia will leapfrog Hall of Famers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cuyleki01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kiki Cuyler<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hartnga01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gabby Hartnett<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kleinch01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chuck Klein<\/a> as well as secure his sole possession of position 187th all-time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The all-time career leader for doubles is a familiar name, Tris Speaker. Among the top of the list are again many of the same Red Sox; Yaz at 8th, Ortiz at 12th, Boggs at 23rd and Ramirez at 33rd. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are eight active players on the list ahead of Pedroia. Albert Pujols at 10th, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cabremi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miguel Cabrera<\/a> at 30th, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/canoro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robinson Cano<\/a> at 41st, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/markani01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Markakis<\/a> at 87th, Matt Holiday at 91st, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gonzaad01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adrian Gonzalez<\/a> at 129th, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=martivi01,martin012vic&amp;search=Victor+Martinez&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Martinez<\/a> at 151st and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kinslia01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ian Kinsler<\/a> at 180th. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prediction: 7\/7 at Detroit<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Last Word<\/h3>\n<p>Barring injuries the Boston Red Sox look poised for another very successful season. Martinez is ready to open his season by surpassing 1,000 hits. Following that Pearce should have the opportunity to reach 1,000 total bases. By the All-Star Break JBJ could join Pearce at that milestone.
