However, looking back on where the team was at coming out of <strong>Spring Training<\/strong>, and with some unexpected events throughout the season, the Dodgers hung around longer than one should have expected.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Los Angeles Dodgers 2016 Season Recap<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Dodgers finished the 162 game season, 91-71.\u00a0 With the way the Dodgers front office came out of the off-season, many would say that this was an accomplishment in itself.<\/p>\n<p>In an unprecedented move, <strong>Andrew Friedman<\/strong> and company would 2015 let <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/greinza01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zack Greinke<\/a><\/strong> not only leave Los Angeles via his player option, but allow him to sign with the division rival <strong>Arizona D-Backs<\/strong>.\u00a0 Naturally, many expected the Dodgers to make a big splash to replace Greinke, but the Dodgers would come up with quieter signings in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/maedake01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenta Maeda<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kazmisc01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Kazmir<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0 All this while the <strong>San Francisco Giants <\/strong>would lock down <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cuetojo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johnny Cueto<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/samarje01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Samardzija<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 For the first time since the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/8302304\/boston-red-sox-send-adrian-gonzalez-carl-crawford-los-angeles-dodgers-blockbuster-trade\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">great trade of 2012<\/a>, the Dodgers ownership had taken a passive approach in locking down and going after big names.<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers would elect to upgrade their much needed bullpen instead, and did so in a way at the time, didn\u2019t seem like an upgrade. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/blantjo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Blanton<\/a><\/strong>, whose days as a starter didn\u2019t end well with Dodgers early in his career, returned to the organization as a reliever.<\/p>\n<p>Even with the addition to the bullpen, the Dodgers still had gaping holes in their rotation. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/ryuhy01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hyun-Jin Ryu<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mccarbr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon McCarthy<\/a>, <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anderbr04.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brett Anderson<\/a> <\/strong>would all start the season the disabled list, leaving the Dodgers with the most underwhelming rotation coming out of Los Angeles in years.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Consistent Baseball<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Come April, though, the Dodgers would play consistent baseball. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stripro01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ross Stripling<\/a><\/strong>, who the Dodgers put trust on early on in the season, would pitch a no-hitter in his debut start with the Dodgers against Giants, up until new manager <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?results=roberda07,roberda06,roberda05,roberda03&amp;search=Dave+Roberts&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dave Roberts<\/a> <\/strong>pulled him due to Striplings pre-planned pitch count.<\/p>\n<p>Maeda<strong>, <\/strong>would home run in his debut as a <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/video\/topic\/16285926\/v576652683\/ladsd-maeda-hits-a-solo-homer-in-his-mlb-debut\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dodger<\/a>, and overall would provide some early excitement in his early tenure in the Dodgers rotation.<\/p>\n<p>Other players were picking up the slack outside of pitching. <strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thomptr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lastwordonbaseball.com\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trayce Thompson<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, would become a regular performer in the outfield, coming through many times in the clutch, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/turneju01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Turner<\/a>, <\/strong>would start red hot in one of his best years of his career, especially in the home run category. Former professional <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/10\/21\/sports\/baseball\/andrew-toles-los-angeles-dodgers-nlcs.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">grocery store employee<\/a> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tolesan01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Toles<\/a>, <\/strong>would become a staple in the Dodgers outfield late and into the postseason.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/seageco01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Corey Seager<\/a>, <\/strong>who played in his official rookie year, made a strong push to be the<strong> National League MVP<\/strong>, if not just <strong>Rookie of the Year<\/strong>, batting .308, with 26 home runs and 72 RBIs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/u\/uriasju01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julio Urias<\/a>, <\/strong>though shaky in his first couple starts, finished the year 5-2\u00a0 in 15 starts, and became the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truebluela.com\/2016\/10\/13\/13271254\/julio-urias-youngest-pitcher-dodgers-playoffs-mlb-history\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">youngest pitcher ever to start a game<\/a> in the postseason for the Dodgers.<\/p>\n<p>The team would lead the league with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/mlb\/disabled-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">players on the disabled list in 2016<\/a>, and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kershcl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clayton Kershaw<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was not an exclusion.<\/p>\n<p>On June 30<sup>th<\/sup>, the Dodgers placed <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kershcl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-lastwordonbaseball.com\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clayton Kershaw<\/a><\/strong> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/columnist\/bob-nightengale\/2016\/06\/30\/mlb-dodgers-panic-mode-loss-clayton-kershaw-dl\/86557152\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the 15-day disable list<\/a> , and the stint would be extended much further than that.\u00a0 The team wouldn\u2019t budge, though. \u00a0Ironically, the Dodgers would play their best baseball, in what many thought would have been the end of their season.<\/p>\n<p>Six games out of first place on June 30<sup>th<\/sup>, the Dodgers found themselves four games ahead of the San Francisco Giants upon Kershaw\u2019s return on September 9<sup>th<\/sup>. \u00a0With a somewhat stabilized rotation consisting of Maeda, deadline acquisition <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hillri01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rich Hill<\/a><\/strong>, youthful Urias, and none other than Kershaw, the Dodgers would go on to clinch their fourth consecutive division title.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Biggest Disappointment: SportsNet LA Negotiations Sour Vin Scully\u2019s Final Year<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Disappointments on the field can be pointed out. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/puigya01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yasiel Puig<\/a>\u2019s<\/strong> demotion to <strong>Triple A Oklahoma City<\/strong> at a time in which the front office had completely given up on him after a trade for <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reddijo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Reddick<\/a><\/strong>, or what became apparent at the end of the season, the team\u2019s straight up inability bat against left handed pitching. However, short of a World Series run, the biggest disappointment came off the field.<\/p>\n<p>If you lived in the Los Angeles Dodgers TV territory, which spans all of Los Angeles and even into Las Vegas, NV, you went another year missing out on not just the Dodgers, but nearly all of <strong>Vin Scully\u2019s<\/strong> final season calling play-by-play from <strong>Chavez Ravine<\/strong>, thanks to another year of\u00a0failed negotiations between Charter Spectrum and pay TV providers.<\/p>\n<p>Arguably, if the Dodgers didn\u2019t have their current TV Deal, it\u2019s possible they wouldn\u2019t have the current ability to spend as lavishly on their roster as they have had since <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/news\/article\/41215548\/dodgers-to-launch-network-with-time-warner-tv-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the deal was announced in 2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, teams can\u2019t buy championships, and if the Dodgers and Charter Spectrum don\u2019t budge soon at the negotiation table, the Dodgers ownership may not be able to try doing so for much longer. At the beginning of 2015, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/envelope\/cotown\/la-et-ct-time-warner-cable-dodger-channel-financial-losses-20150324-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Times reported<\/a> that Time Warner (Now Charter Spectrum), had been losing over $100 million a year on SportsNet LA.
