Right handed hitter, has a simple path to contact, hits the ball out front with excellent raw bat speed, loose and quick hands, hits the ball hard to the pull side, showed his game power with a long home run on a 92 mph fastball, really stood out in all aspects at the plate. Also pitched, fastball up to 88 mph from a tall delivery with a high arm circle, limited lower half use, have seen up to 91 mph in the past. Lots of similarities to 2016 PG All-American Ryan Vilade. Good student, verbal commitment to Kansas. Selected for the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic.

Strengths

A big strength of Groshans is his hitting ability. Jordan has a smooth swing and hits the ball out front, which allows him to hit the ball hard to the pull side of the field. It is believed that Groshans can hit for both power and average in the future.

Jordan had the following to say about hitting:

“I love to hit baseballs a long way. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I love to go up to the plate looking for a fastball and stuff to drive.”

Weaknesses

Previously Groshans was told that he had issues with his range and arm strength, coming into this season though Jordan stated that he had polished up his range and arm strength. Groshans had the following to say about the weaknesses that had been stated and how he had improved.

“A lot of the issues people were telling me with range and arm strength, I have polished those up pretty well. I believe I can stick at shortstop at the next level, whether it’s college or professional.”

A possible weakness can be a future position change because of his size some scouts believe that he will be moved to third base because of the size. He did get some playing time though at third base, shortstop, and second base during the showcase circuit last summer.

MLB Comparison

One scout compared Groshan’s hitter profile to right fielder Matt Holiday. As he fills out and time goes on he will be comparable to Colin Moran or Kris Bryant. Groshan will not be taken as high as Bryant and Moran were but that is mostly due to the fact that those two were drafted out of college.

Groshan will be predicted to be more of a power hitter than Moran but will need to develop more as a contact hitter as Moran has while still maintaining power.

Highlights of Jordan Groshan

Smooth play by Jordan Groshans at SS. pic.twitter.com/Tqja13EUDB

— Michael Lananna (@mlananna) August 14, 2017

Magnolia’s Jordan Groshans hits a 3-run triple in the top of the seventh inning. pic.twitter.com/5ZJa44cKAC

— Brandon Ogden (@BrandonOSports) May 12, 2018

https://twitter.com/h8rproof82/status/997286882722615296

With Groshans already an offensive threat and looking to carry that over when he gets to play against higher level opponents that will be something that definitely excites the organization that Jordan gets drafted to.
