Multiple players are on their radar, and the rumors are not stopping. The Phillies are making progress to sign a player, but this time, they took a step closer to San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBccv9onD0" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3120px; aspect-ratio: 3120/2080;" ></smartframe-embed>

Philadelphia needs an outfielder, and Ramos is the new target that has emerged in trade talks. Not long ago, the club was also linked to Matt Chapman as a long-term option. The Giants are widely expected to be sellers before the trade deadline. With the clock ticking, the Phillies are probably waiting to strike a deal.

Ramos and the Phillies

Phillies Send Scouts to the Giants-Royals Game

The latest scouting report suggests that Philadelphia is pretty serious about Ramos. As per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Phillies had a scout present at Kauffman Stadium as the Giants took on the Kansas City Royals.

“The Phillies, in the market for a right-handed-hitting outfielder, had a scout at Monday night’s game.”

–@susanslusser https://t.co/8qIvoHCM0w pic.twitter.com/yNkT9mvk7b

— Phillies Tailgate (@PhilsTailgate) July 21, 2026

Reports state that the Phillies are looking for a right-handed outfielder. Ramos will be a great fit to fill in for Adolis Garcia. They need a power-hitter, and Ramos could be the right candidate. The slugger is slashing .268 with nine home runs. Ramos certainly impressed scouts after he homered against the Royals during their game on Monday night.

Another advantage is that Heilot Ramos is slashing .315 with a .906 OPS against left-handed pitching this season. However, his defense has not been up to the mark. At present, he has minus-three defensive runs saved and minus-three outs above average. Philadelphia might overlook his defensive slump, especially since they need a right-handed slugger.

Can the Phillies Sign Heliot Ramos?

The Giants are not going to make the playoffs even if they start winning games. They would jump at an opportunity to rebuild their team. Ramos will become a free agent only after the 2029 season. San Francisco would use this opportunity to trade him for a long-term deal.

Ramos signed a 1-year, $810,000 pre-arbitration contract, but remains under team control. The Phillies can test Ramos by giving him a short-term deal. Another huge advantage is that he’s just 26. There’s plenty of room for him to improve and be a long-term option for the team if he performs well.

It’s also worth noting that Heliot Ramos held a batting average over .255 in the last two years. He crushed 22 home runs in 2024 and 21 home runs in 2025. Those numbers can get better, and his price tag will be an easy win-win for Dave Dombrowski.

Heliot Ramos Can Be a Backup Plan for the Phillies

The Phillies will play their cards well when it comes to choosing players. They have plenty of options to consider, and Ramos can be their backup plan. Lane Thomas of the Kansas City Royals is another option, and Ramos’ teammate, Jung Hoo Lee, is also on the list. That clearly explains why the Phillies scouts were present at the Giants vs. Royals game.

Jul 21, 2026; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; San Francisco Giants left fielder Heliot Ramos (17) hits a one run single against the Kansas City Royals during the fifth inning at Kauffman Stadium. The Phillies are also desperately looking for a starting pitcher. Adding a fifth starter might be their top priority before seeking an outfielder.

The Phillies also have competition when it comes to Heliot Ramos. The Seattle Mariners are also on the list of teams that are linked to the slugger. For now, there’s no progress made, but the club is pursuing Ramos for sure. Phillies fans could expect a move anytime soon as the trade deadline approaches.

Main Photo: Gary A.
