Of course, not every prospect can become the next <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/judgeaa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aaron Judge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harpebr03.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bryce Harper<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That was covered last week in the &#8220;biggest missed opportunities of the decade&#8221; segment<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There have been picks, however, where the players either were a success or were on track to be a success. These are Boston\u2019s biggest hits in the draft since 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One quick note: for the misses list, there was a criterion that they had to be a major league player, as prospects are hard to judge whether they are a missed pick or a huge pick. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the sake of one inclusion, this rule is tossed aside. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will primarily consist of major league players, though.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Biggest Red Sox Draft \u201cHits\u201d Since 2020<\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Anthony Eyanson<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s get the minor leaguer out of the way first.<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=eyanso000ant\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Anthony Eyanson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a huge steal when drafted by the Red Sox, as the right-hander who was projected in the late first round fell to the middle of the third. While this was a surprise for the LSU star, and there was an <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/soxprospects.com\/players\/eyanson-anthony.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">apparent issue with his fastball<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that caused this slide, Boston saw his potential. And boy, has this decision paid off <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so far<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number two prospect in the system (55 in baseball), and a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/07\/04\/red-sox-futures-game\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Futures Game participant<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this year, has dominated the minor leagues in his first season. He started in High-A Greenville, along with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/06\/red-sox-prospects-the-names-in-greenville-to-keep-an-eye-on\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stacked rotation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> involving fellow 2025 draftees <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=wither000kys\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyson Witherspoon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=philli006mar\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marcus Phillips<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and stood out above them with a 0.44 ERA and a K\/BB ratio of 11.33 (34 strikeouts to three walks). He\u2019s done pretty well at the next level in Portland as well, with a record of 3-0 and a 1.74 ERA.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">7 strikeouts over 5 innings of work for Anthony Eyanson on Saturday. <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XR67dLDA1f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/XR67dLDA1f<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Red Sox Player Development (@RedSoxPlayerDev) <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RedSoxPlayerDev\/status\/2074162204522479676?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 6, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/baseballsavant.mlb.com\/savant-player\/anthony-eyanson-809254?stats=career-r-pitching-milb\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mix of pitches<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is very interesting; as mentioned, during the pre-draft process, his fastball was seen as his weakest. Currently, he&#8217;s hitting triple digits in the strike zone too, helping him strike out roughly <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.fangraphs.com\/players\/anthony-eyanson\/sa3031104\/stats\/pitching\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">35%(!) of the batters he\u2019s faced<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He\u2019s working a mid-80\u2019s slider, along with a mid-80\u2019s splitter that\u2019s starting to come to form. Based on his dominance and his improvement on his pitches, it\u2019s safe to say this was a steal for Boston.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Chase Meidroth<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now this one\u2019s a slightly weird situation as, along with <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/teelky01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyle Teel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, they were successful minor league players in the Red Sox organization, but were traded prior to making their major league debuts. However, seeing as he\u2019s probably the best player from the fourth round in 2022 (<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/meltotr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Troy Melton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> makes a good case), there\u2019s a place for him on this list. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/meidrch01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chase Meidroth<\/a> was a middle infielder who performed well in Worcester in 2024, hitting .293 with an <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">incredible<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 105 walks, contributing to a .437 OBP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 1280px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9\" image-id=\"fwuQJkLIEA43\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3900px; aspect-ratio: 3900\/2700;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Meidroth was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/06\/02\/revisiting-garrett-crochet-trade\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shipped off to the Chicago White Sox<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/crochga01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Garrett Crochet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> blockbuster, it didn\u2019t take him long to get called up to the big leagues. Called up in April of 2025 (coincidentally making his debut against the Red Sox), he had a decent rookie season, hitting .253 with five homers and 23 RBIs. This season however, he\u2019s improved and become one of Chicago\u2019s<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/southsideshowdown.com\/chase-meidroth-s-mysterious-improvement-quiets-white-sox-fans-calling-for-his-job\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> most important players<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this season. He may not have played with the Red Sox at the major league level, but he has certainly been a successful pick.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Roman Anthony\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anthoro01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roman Anthony<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been a tricky name around Boston this year. Drafted in the third round of the 2022 draft, he quickly rose to eventually being the number one prospect in all of baseball. It came to a point where, after hitting a near 500-foot grand slam in Triple-A, people claimed him to be the next face of baseball. That was a tremendous amount of pressure to put on someone who hadn\u2019t even cracked the majors yet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And oddly enough, he had a great rookie season in 2025. While he didn\u2019t manage to hit 20 homers or do anything that pops out, he had a .292 batting average and an OBP of .396. It also could be said that his call-up helped turn the season around. It\u2019s really uncertain when this injury will heal and when he will come back. Surely, when he does, he\u2019s not going to immediately be the player who received an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/08\/06\/red-sox-lock-up-roman-anthony-eight-year-extension\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eight-year, $130 million contract extension<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this past August. But if he can be serviceable, the team gets another depth piece in the lineup, with possibly a star for the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Payton Tolle<\/b><b> and <\/b><b>Connelly Early<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to them being drafted in back-to-back years and debuting in a similar timeframe (with <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tollepa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Payton Tolle<\/a> being August 29th, 2025, and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/earlyco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Connelly Early<\/a> being September 9th, 2025), it makes more sense to put them together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tolle had been the Red Sox\u2019s second-round choice in 2024, out of TCU. The big left-hander has quickly become a fan favorite here during his rise to the majors and after his call-up. His dominance comes from his fastball, which usually is in the upper 90s, although his best is 100.4 MPH. His <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/baseballsavant.mlb.com\/savant-player\/payton-tolle-801139?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">curveball has been<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the most swing-and-miss pitch this season, though, with a whiff percentage of 45.7%. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His career moment so far was when he took a perfect game into the sixth inning against the New York Yankees. Drafted out of the University of Virginia in 2023, Early has been one of the biggest strikeout pitchers since his debut. In <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/connelly-early-red-sox-call-up-mlb-debut\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his major league debut<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he tied <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/aasedo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don Aase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the most strikeouts in a Red Sox debut with 11. He\u2019s been a big part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/06\/30\/what-red-sox-rotation-dominance-vs-yankees-means-for-second-half-of-season\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">elite pitching staff that Boston possesses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this season (as has Tolle). Like Anthony, though, he\u2019s on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/07\/01\/red-soxs-connelly-early-to-15-day-injured-list-jovani-moran-back-with-boston\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the injured list right now too<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s a big loss for a team trying to get back to winning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is safe to say that both of these pitchers have been huge hits for Boston and Craig Breslow this decade (although Breslow did not draft Early), but both Early and Tolle <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">should <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be big pieces for the future of this Red Sox team, no matter <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/05\/22\/red-sox-mock-trades\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which direction they decide to go at the trade deadline<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The Last Word\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s pretty clear that based on the five names here, the Red Sox have had pretty good drafts the past few years, at least when it comes to top-end talent. Except for Meidroth, it seems as if everyone else here will play a big part in the next era for the Red Sox.
