Right now is definitely one of those times. <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/chishja01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jazz Chisholm Jr.,<\/a> who was also just ejected from a game against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, entered concussion protocol following Monday\u2019s loss to the Detroit Tigers. The injury stemmed from a hard collision with <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dominja01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jasson Dom\u00ednguez<\/a>, who was coming in for a pop-up in shallow right field. However, according to Chris Kirschner of <em>The Athletic<\/em>, Chisholm will be available off the bench for Tuesday night&#8217;s game against the Tigers, despite entering concussion protocol less than 24 hours ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 1280px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOB04ZPRWw2\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5000px; aspect-ratio: 5000\/3342;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h2>Jazz Chisholm Jr. Available Off Bench for Yankees<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chisholm isn\u2019t even the best (or second-best) player that the Yankees are missing right now thanks to injuries: <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/judgeaa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Judge<\/a>, <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/friedma01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Max Fried<\/a>, <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stantmi03.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giancarlo Stanton<\/a>, <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/grishtr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trent Grisham<\/a>, and <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcmahry01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan McMahon<\/a> have <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/06\/24\/yankees-mcmahon-to-il\/\" target=\"_self\">all gone on the injured list<\/a> within the last six or so weeks. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/06\/30\/yankees-search-for-answers-amid-historic-summer-slump\/\" target=\"_self\">Yankees&#8217; summer slump<\/a> has continued with no end in sight. Their record in June is now under .500 after their aforementioned 7-3 loss on Monday, a game in which their only scoring came on a three-run home run from <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rosaram01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amed Rosario<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jazz Chisholm Jr. said he\u2019s available off the bench today<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chris Kirschner (@ChrisKirschner) <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ChrisKirschner\/status\/2072049555923743170?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">June 30, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> As for who will take over at second base if Chisholm does happen to end up missing time, there are a few options that the Yankees have, though none of them are great. Still, with the way Chisholm has been hitting as of late, the Yankees might actually be better off using one of their depth players.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Not a Serious Injury<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It clearly doesn&#8217;t look like Chisholm has a serious injury, but in the unlikely scenario that he does, the Yankees will likely use either <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cabaljo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jos\u00e9 Caballero<\/a> or <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cabreos01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oswaldo Cabrera<\/a> at second base. Caballero, who\u2019s been playing multiple positions across the field since <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/volpean01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Volpe<\/a> came back to take over at shortstop, has been one of New York\u2019s most valuable assets during this stretch of injuries that are popping up left and right. As for Cabrera, the 27-year-old utility man is still adjusting to being back in the big leagues after missing almost a year\u2019s worth of time thanks to a broken ankle; so far, he has no hits and three strikeouts in six at-bats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Rosario (who has a .783 OPS) is also an option for New York at second, they could also reach even further into their depth and call up <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=lombar002geo&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George Lombard Jr.<\/a> While this would\u2019ve seemed ludicrous at the start of the season, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.milb.com\/player\/george-lombard-jr-806146\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lombard has quickly adjusted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Triple-A after making the jump from Double-A just a month into the season. Across 42 games with the Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, Lombard Jr is slashing .231\/.381\/.385, which is quite impressive considering that the young shortstop celebrated his 21st birthday less than a month ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Yankees have been much more proactive this season than in years past with giving some of their top prospects a chance when they\u2019ve earned it, and it certainly seems like Lombard will earn it soon if he hasn\u2019t already.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>No Time for Complacency<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though Chisholm is reportedly still available off the bench, it\u2019s important to note that the Yankees do have a tendency to shield or downplay the true nature of injuries from time to time. Regardless, no matter how badly Chisholm has been hitting as of late (he has a .446 OPS with 11 strikeouts and five hits in his last 10 games), the Yankees simply cannot afford to go much longer without their starters amid this <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/06\/28\/yankees-june-swoon-2026\/\" target=\"_self\">June swoon<\/a>.
