(Photo by Stephen Maturen\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If the Twins fall further out of contention or receive an offer too good to refuse, teams around the league will undoubtedly inquire about one of baseball&#8217;s most dynamic players.<\/p>\n<p>When healthy, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2019\/02\/01\/byron-buxton-key-success-twins\/\" target=\"_self\">Buxton remains a game-changer<\/a>. He combines Gold Glove-caliber defense in center field with elite speed, tremendous power, and the ability to take over games on both sides of the ball.<\/p>\n<p>His injury history creates risk, but his upside is exactly why contenders would be willing to gamble.<\/p>\n<p>If the impossible becomes possible, here are the three destinations that make the most sense.<\/p>\n<h1>1. Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/PHI\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phillies<\/a> have been chasing another World Series since reaching the Fall Classic in 2022, and adding a true everyday center fielder could push an already dangerous roster <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/06\/08\/phillies-critical-choice\/\" target=\"_self\">even closer to a championship.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Buxton would immediately become the club&#8217;s best defensive outfielder while adding another legitimate power threat to a lineup featuring Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, and Alec Bohm.<\/p>\n<p>His athleticism would also allow the Phillies to improve their overall outfield alignment while strengthening one of the few areas that has remained inconsistent.<\/p>\n<h3>Proposed Return<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>OF <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/crawfju01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Crawford<\/a><\/li>\n<li>INF Aidan Miller<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Minnesota should begin negotiations by asking for Justin Crawford, one of the game&#8217;s premier outfield prospects and a potential long-term replacement in center field.<\/p>\n<p>Mick Abel gives the Twins another controllable arm capable of pitching near the top half of a Major League rotation.<\/p>\n<p>Aidan Miller would provide another high-upside infield prospect with middle-of-the-order potential.<\/p>\n<p>It would be an expensive price for Philadelphia, but acquiring a player with Buxton&#8217;s impact almost always is.<\/p>\n<h1>2. Mandatory Credit: Arianna Grainey-Imagn Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Few teams have a more obvious need than Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>The <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/SEA\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mariners<\/a> continue to boast one of baseball&#8217;s best pitching staffs, but offensive consistency has repeatedly prevented them from taking the next step in the American League.<\/p>\n<p>Buxton would immediately transform both the lineup and the defense.<\/p>\n<p>Pairing him with Julio Rodr\u00edguez would give Seattle arguably the most athletic outfield in baseball while providing another dangerous right-handed bat capable of changing games with one swing.<\/p>\n<h3>Proposed Return<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>INF Cole Young<\/li>\n<li>RHP Logan Evans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cole Young projects as a long-term everyday middle infielder.<\/p>\n<p>Logan Evans has the potential to become a quality Major League starter.<\/p>\n<p>Lazaro Montes possesses some of the biggest raw power in Seattle&#8217;s farm system and could eventually develop into a middle-of-the-order bat.<\/p>\n<p>For Minnesota, it would represent a balanced return featuring upside, proximity, and long-term value.<\/p>\n<h1>3. Preller.<\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/SDP\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Diego<\/a> has consistently shown a willingness to acquire star talent, and Buxton would fit perfectly on a roster built around elite athleticism and postseason aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>His defense would thrive in spacious Petco Park, while his power and speed would add another dimension to a lineup anchored by Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and Jackson Merrill.<\/p>\n<p>For a franchise with championship ambitions, Buxton represents exactly the kind of impact player capable of changing a playoff series.<\/p>\n<h3>Proposed Return<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>SS Leo De Vries<\/li>\n<li>RHP Humberto Cruz<\/li>\n<li>OF Kavares Tears<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The conversation would have to begin with Leo De Vries, one of baseball&#8217;s elite shortstop prospects and a player with superstar potential.<\/p>\n<p>Humberto Cruz gives Minnesota another high-ceiling pitching prospect with impressive upside.<\/p>\n<p>Kavares Tears adds a powerful, athletic outfielder who could become another cornerstone piece in the Twins&#8217; next competitive core.<\/p>\n<p>It would be a steep price for San Diego, but acquiring one of the game&#8217;s premier center fielders should require nothing less.<\/p>\n<h1>The Biggest Obstacle Isn&#8217;t Talent\u2014It&#8217;s Buxton Himself<\/h1>\n<p>Finding teams interested in Byron Buxton isn&#8217;t difficult.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly every contender would love to add a healthy version of one of baseball&#8217;s best all-around players.<\/p>\n<p>The real hurdle is convincing Buxton to waive his no-trade clause.<\/p>\n<p>The veteran has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain with the Twins, and Minnesota has publicly maintained that he remains a central part of its future.<\/p>\n<p>That means any trade discussion begins with Buxton&#8217;s approval.<\/p>\n<p>Without it, speculation remains exactly that\u2014speculation.<\/p>\n<h1>The Last Word<\/h1>\n<p>The Twins are under no pressure to move Byron Buxton.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s one of the franchise&#8217;s most popular players, one of baseball&#8217;s elite defensive center fielders, and still possesses game-changing talent when healthy.<\/p>\n<p>But baseball has a way of producing unexpected blockbusters every July.<\/p>\n<p>If Minnesota decides to pivot toward the future, it should demand nothing short of franchise-altering prospect packages.<\/p>\n<p>The Phillies, Mariners, and Padres each possess the combination of organizational depth, competitive urgency, and financial flexibility to make such a deal happen.<\/p>\n<p>Whether Buxton would ever agree to leave Minnesota is another question entirely\u2014but if he does, the bidding could become one of the biggest stories of the trade deadline.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minnesota Twins have publicly stated they have no plans to trade Byron Buxton, and the All-Star center fielder owns a full no-trade clause.
