With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/perezsa02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Salvador Perez<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bumgama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Madison Bumgarner<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/samarje01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Samardzija<\/a>, starting the season on the disabled list, now <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/toronto-blue-jays\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> shortstop, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tulowtr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Troy Tulowitzki<\/a> will begin the season injured. Tulowitzki has dealt with injuries throughout his career, and this year was no different. This time the 33-year-old shortstop has dealt with bone spurs in his heel. Tulowitzki hasn&#8217;t played since last season after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/blue-jays-troy-tulowitzki-placed-on-dl\/c-245146496\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">suffering an ankle sprain<\/a> in July. Toronto made a series of trades to acquire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/solarya01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yangervis Solarte<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/diazal02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aledmys Diaz<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/n\/ngoepgi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gift Ngoepe<\/a>. Diaz and Ngoepe could see time at short while Tulo is on the shelf. He was an All-Star in 2016 when he batted .300\/.369\/.510 with a .879 OPS He finished with 17 HR and 65 RBI that year, and he also finished fifth in MVP voting. During his All-Star\u00a0season in 2016, he posted a -5 DRS at shortstop. Ngoepe, on the other hand, posted a -1 DRS at shortstop, however, he has a smaller body of work than Diaz as he is only going into his second season.<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Jays have consistently\u00a0been bitten by the injury bug. Tulowitzki has consistently been at risk of injury throughout his career, but starter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sanchaa01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Sanchez<\/a> has been hurt by injuries. Sanchez has dealt with blisters the last three years including last season when he was taken out in April.
