After much anticipation, the Seattle Mariners have called up top prospect Colt Emerson<\/a>. He will be playing third base for the foreseeable future after the Mariners placed Brendan Donovan<\/a> on the 10-day injured list due to a left groin muscle strain. Losing Donovan will be a tough loss to the already-injured roster. But as Colt Emerson debuts in the bigs, this could be the jolt this team needs in an inconsistent season<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Colt Emerson entered this season as the sixth-ranked prospect in all of baseball. Making his debut at only age 20, he is the youngest Mariner since F\u00e9lix Hern\u00e1ndez<\/a> debuted on August 4, 2005, at just age 19. He was the 22nd overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft. The Mariners signed Emerson to an eight-year, $95 million extension<\/a> earlier this season. It was at the time the biggest contract to a player yet to play in the big leagues. He had a breakout season last year, batting .285 with an .842 OPS and 16 home runs across three levels in the minor leagues. He has proven himself to have big league potential, but with high expectations, only time will tell.<\/span><\/p>\n
