The New York Mets have been a dealt a serious blow to their pitching rotation. Clay Holmes<\/a> fractured his fibula during Friday night’s game against the New York Yankees.<\/p>\n

Holmes sustained his injury during the fourth inning. A line drive hit by Spencer Jones<\/a> hit Holmes in the leg. Despite trainers coming out, Holmes did remain in the game and finished the fourth inning. He recorded one out in the fifth, but was replaced by Adam Warren<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza<\/a> revealed the fibula fracture during his post-game press conference. Mendoza added that Holmes will be out for a “long time.”<\/p>\n

Fibula Fracture Ruins Strong 2026 Season<\/h3>\n

Holmes is in his second season with the Mets and second season as a starter. He was having a strong season<\/a>, posting a 4-3 record alongside a 1.86 ERA. He was a bright spot for a Mets’ team that currently sits at the bottom of the National League East.<\/p>\n

Holmes’ strong season even gained attention heading into Friday’s series opener<\/a> with the Yankees. Holmes was opposed by Cam Schittler, who came into Friday’s game with a 1.35 ERA. Two of the game’s current strong starters was the headliner for the game. Unfortunately, a fibula fracture headlines the postgame storylines.<\/p>\n

Mets Add to Lengthy Injured List<\/h3>\n

The Mets entered the season hoping to contend for a division title and more<\/a>. However, the injury bug has been biting the team<\/a>. Holmes’ inevitable inclusion to the list will bring the list up to 13 players. Aside from Holmes, some notable injured Mets include Francisco Lindor<\/a>, Jorge Polanco<\/a>, Francisco Alvarez<\/a>, and Luis Robert Jr.<\/a><\/p>\n

A season with high expectations is certainly taking a downward turn. The Mets still have time to turn it around, but they will have to do it without Holmes.<\/p>\n

As for Holmes, the general timeline for a fibula fracture is 4-6 months. While this will likely end his season, he at least will have the most of the winter to recover and possibly be ready for Spring Training.<\/p>\n
