As of May 9th, they have a record of 17-22. Given pitching injuries, that seems okay. But they struggled in pretty much every aspect of the game in April. They seem to be turning it around now, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/28\/alex-cora-firing-aftermath-what-might-have-happened-red-sox-manager\/\" target=\"_self\">post-Alex Cora<\/a>. But the management shakeup isn\u2019t the only news happening. All around their organization, there have been some stories to come in as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Juan Valera Out for Year\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going into the regular season, there were four Red Sox prospects ranked in the top 100 of all of MiLB. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/earlyco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Connelly Early<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> graduated from this list, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tollepa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Payton Tolle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has as well. That leaves <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=arias-008fra\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Franklin Arias<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=wither000kys\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyson Witherspoon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/milb\/prospects\/top100\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MLB\u2019s top 100 list.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> But on Baseball America\u2019s list, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=valera001jua\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Juan Valera<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> managed to sneak his way in as well. The hard-throwing right-hander just made the list at #100 for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseballamerica.com\/rankings\/2026-top-100-prospects\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">April edition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (paywall included).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 1200px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBJKeeD2q3\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3434px; aspect-ratio: 3434\/4292;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current third-best prospect in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/03\/04\/red-sox-prospects-mlbs-top-30\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Red Sox system<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had a great start to the season in Greenville, having an ERA of 1.93 and striking out 47.2% of batters he faced. In a game against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, he left in the first inning. But <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/22\/sonny-gray-justin-slaten-more-red-sox-pitcher-injury-report\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the initial thought<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was that he avoided serious damage to his elbow, and he would be out for two weeks. However, it appears that Valera\u2019s season is officially over. The 19-year-old has a lot of potential and can shoot up through the system once he comes back.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Anthony Eyanson\u2019s Meteoric Rise in 2026<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the Red Sox lost one top 100 pitcher this season, they gained another in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=eyanso000ant\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthony Eyanson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The 3rd round pick from last year\u2019s draft started the season unranked in Baseball America\u2019s top 100 in April and is now a top 50 prospect in the May Edition. His dominance was shown even more with his K-BB ratio. At 34 strikeouts to three walks, his ratio is at 11.33 SO\/BB. The former LSU pitcher struck out 152 batters in 108 innings in his junior year. He has not made his Double-A debut yet, but should he succeed there, the rise through the system will be one to watch for sure.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Pair of Moves in Worcester<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Triple-A Worcester\u2019s been active with movement recently, too, particularly in the pitching department. First up, with <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/grayso01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sonny Gray<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> returning from his injury suffered in mid-April, Worcester called left-hander <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gamboal01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alec Gamboa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> back on their squad. Gamboa was recently brought up this past week to take over for <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/couloda01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Danny Coulombe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/05\/04\/danny-coulombe-injury-boston-call-up-alec-gamboa-to-replace\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had an IL stint<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of his own. Gamboa did well in his one appearance with the Red Sox, coming in to finish the game on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers. Burgos has been around since 2016, mostly struggling with the Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants. In 2022, he did well in the Guardians&#8217; Single-A affiliate, the Lake County Captains. With them, he went 8-3 out of the bullpen with a 2.08 ERA. From there, he bounced back and forth between the Giants&#8217; minor league system and the Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Mexican League. While he struggled in both, including some semi-pro leagues in the \u201825-\u201926 offseason, he did seem to have a small bounceback in the WBC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Puerto Rico, he only pitched 3 \u2154 innings, but he managed a 2.45 ERA. That may seem bad as there\u2019s limited data on him. But with Oaxaca this season, he had a 5.25 ERA in 12 innings. So it\u2019s lower with one less appearance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The Last Word<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the first month of the minor league season (roughly, depending on level), there\u2019s already been a bunch of big news. Some bad, like losing a pitcher, but also some good, like an unexpected breakout.
