Robby Snelling, the left-handed pitcher the team received in the Tanner Scott trade with the San Diego Padres, is set to make his debut this week.

Snelling this season has been a revelation in AAA. Through 29 innings pitched, his ERA is 1.86, and he is allowing fewer than one hit/walk per inning. A strikeout rate of 40% is mightily impressive, and Marlins fans and aggregators have been suggesting a call-up for the 22-year-old since Spring Training. It comes after just 77 starts, starting from High-A ball with the Padres, all the way to AAA with the Marlins.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBiMIMcf04" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6264px; aspect-ratio: 6264/4176;" ></smartframe-embed>

What the Marlins Can Expect From Snelling

While it has not yet been made official, Snelling will likely make his debut this weekend against the Washington Nationals. As mentioned, this would mark the second player to make his Major League debut for the Marlins this week. His fastball and slider have been graded highly in the minor leagues, and it seems like Snelling has developed a third pitch in his change-up. At 6’3 and 210 lbs, Snelling will be a presence on the mound for opponents.

In his season so far, International League AAA hitters have a batting average of just .116 against Snelling. He also ranks third in strikeouts and second in ERA for the season, making him one of the most exciting pitching prospects in the league. Snelling has, however, had a little bit of an issue with control in 2026, allowing 15 walks, which ranks in the top 10 in AAA. For him to be successful at the Major League level, he will need to find the strike zone more frequently. He can strike guys out, and if he can also induce more soft contact, we could be looking at someone who can be successful straight away.

The potential battery of Mack and Snelling is exciting for the Marlins, showing that there really is a youth movement in Miami. Fellow left-hander and #1 prospect Thomas White will likely join them in the majors soon.

Main Photo Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn Images

After the recent call-up of #4 prospect Joe Mack earlier this week, the Miami Marlins are calling up the #2 prospect in their system.
