However, his numbers on the mound are impossible to ignore today.

The Brewers Signed Priester After a Desperate Need for Starting Pitching

The Brewers made a trade for Priester on April 7, 2025, to address a large wave of injuries on the Brewers’ roster and the team’s need for a starting pitcher. Even though many people felt the team was too aggressive in demanding a high draft pick for Yophery Rodriguez. According to Baseball trade values via X, they announced the trade back in early April, “Today the Brewers acquired RHP Quinn Priester ($2.7M surplus trade value) from the Red Sox in exchange for OF Yophery Rodriguez ($5.8M), a comp A draft Pick ($4.4M), and a PTBNL. Baseball Trade Values considered it a major overpay by Milwaukee.

Quinn Priester’s Career

Priester, the first-round pick, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019. Later, he played for the Boston Red Sox and, in 2025, was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. Between April 22 and May 1, Priester was placed on the injured list due to a thoracic outlet syndrome and had to go on a rehab assignment. According to Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy, Priester was also dealing with shoulder discomfort. “He had some shoulder soreness, we felt like pulling him off right now was the best thing,” he said. Murphy added, “To get here, he agreed, get him here, get him looked at, get our [pitching] group on him.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBiQoo9DnU" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3600px; aspect-ratio: 3600/2400;" ></smartframe-embed>

In 2023, during his time with the Pirates, Priester appeared in 10 games, including three starts. He went 3-3 with a 7.74 ERA over 50 innings pitched in those 10 games. However, Priester went 1-0 with one run allowed over five innings in his only start with the Red Sox. By 2025, Priester improved. Appearing in 29 games, with 24 starts, going 13-3 with a 3.32 ERA in 157 1/3 IP. As of right now, Priester is placed on the injured list for 15 days.

Priester’s Injury

As of May 7, the latest update regarding Priester for the Brewers is quite concerning. The Brewers had hoped he would progress quickly, but reports show his rehab isn’t going as the team planned. As of right now, the Brewers are unsure where Priester stands in his recovery process. Priester is currently working on regaining his strength in his arm, and until he shows signs of improvement, the Brewers, as of now, aren’t quite confident of when he’ll be back in the pitching rotation. The brewers know exactly how valuable their right-handed pitcher can be once he gets fully healthy.

Brewers’ Current Pitching Staff Rotation

Milwaukee’s current active pitchers include Jacob Misiorowski, Logan Henderson, Chad Patrick, and Easton McGee. Both Brandon Woodruff and Priester, with shoulder injuries, are on the 15-day injured list, as well as Jared Koenig and Rob Zastryzny.

Main Photo Credit: Dave Kallmann / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

One year ago, after the Milwaukee Brewers acquired right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester from the Boston Red Sox, he went from a starting pitcher to the injured list.
