The club won 16 games, losing 10. The success of the month was led by three main contributors; <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/judgeaa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Judge<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/03\/yankees-must-give-contract-extensions-rice-schlittler-warren\/\" target=\"_self\">Ben Rice<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/05\/03\/yankees-top-starters-ranked-number-one-for-1-2-duos-in-the-major-leagues\/\" target=\"_self\">Cam Schlittler<\/a>. These three need to carry the momentum into May.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are days into May and the Bronx bombers have started off on the right foot. They picked up two wins against their American League East counterparts, the Baltimore Orioles. The club wishes to have this month mirror April, if not better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The club faced the Miami Marlins, Athletics, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, and Texas Rangers. All competitive teams that provided good competition.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May will look fairly similar, as the grind continues. The Yankees will need key contributions from their top noted guys. Judge, Rice, and Schlittler were a trio of top producers from the batters box to the mound.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Yankees Top Three Performers in April Need to Be Hot in May\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOB9juHHQJD\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5506px; aspect-ratio: 5506\/3672;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s start on the bump, where the club has shown very impressive strength. The Yankees are still awaiting <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/03\/25\/what-should-the-yankees-expect-from-gerrit-cole-in-2026\/\" target=\"_self\">Gerrit Cole<\/a> to return, while<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/20\/it-isnt-time-to-panic-yet-about-this-yankees-starting-pitcher\/\" target=\"_self\"> Luis Gil<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/26\/yankees-option-former-rookie-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_self\">struggled and was optioned to AAA as a result<\/a>. The one pitcher that has been the talk of the league is <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/schlica01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Schlittler<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees top pitcher has been the anticipated piece to the starting rotation. His April performance starts with a 3-1 record and a 1.73 ERA in six games and 36 and 1 \/ 3 innings. Schlittler ranks second of Major League Baseball\u2019s top 25 pitchers for 2026. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The right-hander currently holds a 4-1 season record with a 1.51 ERA, striking out 41 and only walking six hitters. He\u2019s tied for second most home runs with <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/alvaryo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yordan Alvarez<\/a>, of the Houston Astros. They both have 12 bombs, right under <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/murakmu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Munetaka Murakami<\/a>. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees captain has been the engine of the lineup. The outfielder recorded 91 at-bats in the month of April. He finished with a .275 batting average, .416 on-base percentage, and .659 slugging percentage.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Judge launched 10 home runs, 25 hits, with 20 walks, 17 RBis, and scoring 23 times with 60 total bases.\u00a0 On the season, Judge has 21 RBIs on 12 home runs, and 30 hits. The Yankees slugger is on pace for an Most Valuable Player Season.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He\u2019s also on pace to lead the club again in home runs, and has been a major contributor this season so far, especially in April.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who\u2019s the second hitter? Only a true Yankees prodigy; Ben Rice. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/14\/ivy-league-to-mlb-the-smartest-pipeline-in-baseball\/\" target=\"_self\">club\u2019s left-handed bat has been a true production for the team<\/a> offensively. In April, rice recorded 84 at-bats finishing with 27 hits, 10 home runs, 20 RBIs, 18 walks, 22 runs and 63 total bases.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rice also finished with a .321 batting average, .438 on-base percentage, and a .750 slugging percentage. The Yankees offensive stick is ranked fourth in hitters by MLB, right under Aaron Judge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These three players have been the highlight of the boys in pinstripes.
