With both the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies floundering at the moment, the Braves are in a prime position to reclaim their spot atop the division throne. Albeit a small sample size, let\u2019s look at how the chop has returned in Atlanta this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 1200px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9\" image-id=\"fwuQJp2rQQaG\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2774px; aspect-ratio: 2774\/1814;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h2>The Braves Have Their Chop Back Early This Season<\/h2>\n<h2><b>Don\u2019t Forget About the Pedigree<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Braves had a down year in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/ATL\/2025.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2025<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and an early playoff exit in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/ATL\/2024.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2024<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, we can\u2019t forget the nucleus of six straight division crowns and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2021\/11\/03\/the-atlanta-braves-title\/\" target=\"_self\">2021 World Series title<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> still lies in Atlanta. This franchise won 100+ games in both 2022 and 2023. When you have a lineup with names like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acuna<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Albies<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Riley<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olson<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harris<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, your team is always dangerous. The last two years have seemed to make some fans forget about the abundance of talent in Fulton County. Oh yeah, they also have some guy named <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sale<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that heads their rotation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Gotta Love the Drake<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ironically, the member of the Atlanta Braves bringing the most chop on offense is second-year phenom <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/baldwdr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-26_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drake Baldwin<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Last year\u2019s National League Rookie of the Year isn\u2019t experiencing a sophomore slump \u2026 at least not yet. This catcher currently leads the Senior Circuit in runs (28) and hits (37), and he isn\u2019t far behind the lead in RBI (25) and total bases (62). That pairs nicely with a .311 batting average and a .909 OPS. He even <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/03\/braves-backstop-drake-baldwin-chasing-down-hank-aaron-franchise-record\/\" target=\"_self\">tied a franchise record<\/a> by scoring a run in the first seven games of the season. If this keeps up, this Brave may add an MVP trophy to his mantle.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Besides that, veterans <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/albieoz01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-26_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ozzie Albies<\/a>, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harrimi04.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Harris II<\/a>, and <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/o\/olsonma02.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-26_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Olson<\/a> have found their prime strokes again. They are producing power numbers and clutch hits for the fans in Atlanta. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That has led to the Braves being a top-three MLB team in many important offensive team stats<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Interestingly, the team is doing this with stars <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/acunaro01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-26_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ronald Acu\u00f1a Jr.<\/a> and <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rileyau01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-04-26_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Austin Riley<\/a> off to rather slow starts.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Just 29 games into the season, <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Braves?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Braves<\/a> Matt Olson and Drake Baldwin have combined for 15 homers and 50 RBIs.<\/p>\n<p>Through 6 innings today, Olson leads the NL with 20 extra-base hits and 12 doubles. In the NL East, the Braves have a 6 1\/2 game cushion over the second-place <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marlins<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. More importantly, they are 10 1\/2 up on both the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mets<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Phils<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both considered top contenders in MLB \u2026 at least they were a month ago.
