This goes for both the Major League club and the farm system. At the moment, Yankees prospect pitcher <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/03\/17\/three-yankees-prospects-battling-for-roster-spot\/\" target=\"_self\">Elmer Rodr\u00edguez<\/a> is peeling back eyelids due to a phenomenal start to the season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>About<span>\u00a0Rodr\u00edguez<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBWwh6WCq1\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 7204px; aspect-ratio: 7204\/4804;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees returned to American League East competition this season with a not-so exciting big-league roster. This is because very little additions or improvements were made. What actually brings the excitement on is their farm system and what\u2019s next up for the club.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back in 2021, the Boston Red Sox selected a right-handed pitcher in the fourth round of the draft, out of Leadership Christian Academy. Elmer Rodr\u00edguez was the name; a name that Boston parted with. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rodr\u00edguez was sent to the Bronx in a winter meetings deal, and the Yankees never looked back. Why? There was no need to; everything in front of them for Rodr\u00edguez was what mattered, as he showed massive upside.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The right-handed pitching prospect fell right into the Yankees top 30 prospect rankings and kept advancing from there. 2025 was the start of his New York hype, pertaining to his statistics and offerings.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rodr\u00edguez finished with 150 total innings of work, his highest since he threw 89 and 2 \/ 3 in 2024. He\u2019s their second-best pitching prospect under <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=lagran000car\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlos Lagrange<\/a>. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To start the 2026 year, <span>Rodr\u00edguez<\/span> didn\u2019t just follow suit with spring training; he was also on the Puerto Rican World Baseball Classic roster. He received minimal time there; however, the environment prepared him for what was to come.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span>Rodr\u00edguez<\/span> started the minor league season in triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He currently holds a 1-1 record in 21 and 1 \/ 3 innings of work, four games started, allowing four runs total, three earned on 12 hits, and one home run.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span>Rodr\u00edguez<\/span> has faced 78 total batters so far, striking out 20 and walking only seven. The right-hander is doing this with an effective four pitch repertoire, matchup IQ, and pitch-ability. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The prospect has always shown aggression in his approach as a pitcher, but he\u2019s even bolder now when challenging hitters in any situation. <span>Rodr\u00edguez<\/span>\u2019s most recent start was a testament of his command and control over his game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees prospect struck out seven hitters in 5 and 2 \/ 3 innings of work against Rochester. He works a four-seam fastball, curveball, slider, and splitter. His heater has been up to 99 mph, sitting around 95-96 mph.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The slider does most of the \u201csit down\u201d work, being his put away option. That works 83-85 mph, showing horizontal darting action, with depth. His splitter works like a sinker and that\u2019s probably his next best put-away option.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Puerto Rican slinger has shown a great deal of confidence and command, utilized all of his weapons, and working diligently. <span>Rodr\u00edguez<\/span> currently ranks as the 72nd top prospect in the MLB. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His estimated time of arrival to the show is 2026. The Yankees may wait a bit longer due to some <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/16\/yankees-ace-gerrit-cole-beginning-rehab-assignment-double-a\/\" target=\"_self\">returning pieces that will be settling in<\/a>.
