Last year, the Boston Red Sox had one of the best rookie classes in a while. This includes Rookie of the Year finalist <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anthoro01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roman Anthony<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dobbihu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hunter Dobbins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/n\/narvaca01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carlos Narvaez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, among others. This season, however, it\u2019s time for a whole new class to be recognized. And they\u2019re making an impact in a different spot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While last year\u2019s made an all-around impact, the rookies in the first few weeks of the season have worked well on the mound. These five pitchers are just making a name for themselves at the Major League level. Here they are, ranked based on their contributions thus far.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>5.<\/b> <b>Ryan Watson<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/watsory01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ryan Watson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was an interesting pickup. After going undrafted in 2020, he signed with the Baltimore Orioles but never made it past Triple-A. He then got traded to the San Francisco Giants in \u201824, then a year later, was offered up in the Rule Five Draft. The Athletics would go on and draft him before trading him to the Red Sox. At the major league level, he has struggled a bit, putting up an ERA of 7.36 through the first three weeks of the season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There have been bad performances, such as his recent one against the Minnesota Twins, where he let up four runs. Then there\u2019s the good outings, like when he didn\u2019t allow a run in his Major League debut. There\u2019s plenty of time for him to turn it around, but the inconsistencies have to put him in last place for right now.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>4. <\/b> <b>Tyler Uberstine\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/u\/ubersty01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyler Uberstine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was brought up to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/04\/03\/red-sox-roster-moves-before-home-opener\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fill the open roster spot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> due to the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/o\/oviedjo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johan Oviedo<\/a> injury. However, it turns out he himself is on the injured list as of yesterday, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/redsox\/2026\/04\/red-sox-injuries-kutter-crawford-elbow-likely-to-have-mri-key-reliever-slow-in-return-bid.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">per Chris Cotillo<\/a>. The right-hander was drafted by the Red Sox in 2021 and actually started the opening game of Spring Training against Northeastern University. Uberstine only pitched one game, against the San Diego Padres on April 5th. He did decent in that game, letting up one run in 2 \u2154 innings pitched. With the amount of depth there is in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/03\/10\/red-sox-rotation-depth-where-will-these-three-starters-end-up\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">possible starters being pushed to the bullpen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Uberstine might stick around in Triple-A. But time will tell.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>3. <\/b> <b>Jack Anderson\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most recent of the five to make his debut, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anderja02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jack Anderson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had a great debut out of the bullpen. Against the Twins in a game that was a bit of a blowout, he came in after the damage was done. Other than giving up a home run to a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">red-hot <\/span><\/i><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/buxtoby01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Byron Buxton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, his debut was one to remember. The 2021 draft pick struck out the first four batters he faced in his three-inning stint. Anderson was one of the many Red Sox players who <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/02\/12\/five-under-the-radar-prospects-to-watch-in-fort-myers\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">appeared in the World Baseball Classic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this year, pitching for Great Britain. On the 40-man roster currently, if he sticks around as a regular, he\u2019s definitely a pitcher to keep around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 1200px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBZPe2gS4d\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5203px; aspect-ratio: 5203\/3469;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><b>2. <\/b> <b>Tyler Samaniego\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/samanty01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyler Samaniego<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was another pitcher that was acquired this offseason. Coming over to Boston in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/12\/04\/red-sox-acquire-johan-oviedo-pirates-acquire-garcia\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oviedo trade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Since coming to Boston, there\u2019s an argument to be had that he\u2019s been one of the best arms this season. In a little over five innings <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/player\/tyler-samaniego-701719?stats=career-r-pitching-mlb&amp;year=2026\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in spring training<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he only let up one hit, as well as throwing 58% of his pitches for strikes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He then came up to the majors, replacing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/slateju01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Slaten<\/a>, who <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">went down with an injury. So far in his Major League career, he\u2019s pitched 3.2 innings and hasn\u2019t allowed a single hit. It\u2019s a small sample size, but if his 0.818 WHIP tells anything, it\u2019s that he could be a very good pitcher in this organization. He unfortunately got <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/press-release\/red-sox-announce-roster-moves-4-14-26\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sent down to Worcester to make room for Anderson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to come up.\u00a0 However, with the performance he put on, there\u2019s no doubt that he could be appearing in a Red Sox uniform again soon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>1. <\/b> <b>Connelly Early<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/earlyco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Connelly Early<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has had the most experience of all of these guys at the MLB level by far.\u00a0 But as he came into 2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/03\/04\/red-sox-prospects-mlbs-top-30\/#google_vignette\" target=\"_self\">ranking third on the Sox&#8217;s prospect list,<\/a> he&#8217;s still technically under rookie qualifications. Last season, he made a playoff start for Boston, appearing in the Wild Card Series against New York. The southpaw <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/03\/23\/connelly-early-makes-red-sox-opening-day-roster\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">got a spot on the Opening Day roster<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a couple of days before the season started. And since then, he hasn\u2019t looked back. His walk rate is a bit high at 11.9%, but aside from that, he\u2019s looking like the next great pitcher in the Sox system. His ERA is at 2.29, his OBA is just as good at .211, and he (roughly) strikes out a batter an inning. If he hones in on walking fewer batters, he could<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/03\/26\/three-bold-predictions-for-the-red-sox-in-2026\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0be in the running<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for American League Rookie of the Year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus far into the season, it\u2019s a good rookie class. Guys like Samaniego and Anderson could certainly make more appearances.
