Their main key to success starts with health. Cole may be a true x-factor when he\u2019s back and up to full health. Until then, who is the arm you send to the bump for a must-win game?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fried would answer that question.\u00a0 The baseline argument for his x-factor status lies in his statistics from 2025. His first year in the pinstripes was a success. Fried\u2019s main x-factor statistic from 2025 was his WAR, which was 4.5.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The left-hander led the league in wins last season with a 19-5 record; he also led in win-loss percentage at .792. Fried kept his ERA sub-3.00, at 2.86 to be exact. He struck out 189 hitters last season, only walking 51. He\u2019s had five seasons where he\u2019s recorded 150-plus strikeouts. Three of his six pitch options value a 20-plus percent put-away rate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fried will work his hitters, putting them at a disadvantage, not giving much to get burnt on. Hitters roll over for groundouts and weak flyouts. In 2025, Fried had a 52.6% groundball rate, 22.2% flyball rate, and a 57.4% AIR.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees&#8217; left-hander sets the tone for the pitching staff, being a baseline battler. He\u2019s a big game pitcher and a long-term grinder. Until Cole returns, Fried is an x-factor in this rotation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Cam Schlittler<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schlittler is one of the top young pitchers in the game of baseball today. He\u2019s shown massive ability to pitch at this level, and the ability to silence strong lineups.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees&#8217; top pitching prospect worked multiple innings last year, including the postseason. His velocity is up there, and his ability to force groundouts is present.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The young right-hander is very dependable in the rotation, pounds the zone, and commands his options very well. He does this with conviction and is very effective against his opponents. Schlittler will play a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/02\/05\/yankees-cam-schlittler-will-play-big-role-2026\/\" target=\"_self\">big role in 2026<\/a>.
