On August 8th, the Chicago White Sox<\/a> will retire Ozzie Guillen<\/a>‘s number 13 during a pregame ceremony. The announcement was made Friday during the White Sox’s home opener.<\/p>\n

Guillen was informed of the honor by the team’s pregame and postgame team after the top of the third inning. The group was joined by Scott Posednik, who read the announcement. Posednik played under Guillen in Chicago. Additionally, he hit a walk-off home run in Game 2 of the 2005 World Series.<\/p>\n

Guillen’s White Sox Career<\/h3>\n

Guillen played for the White Sox from 1985-1997. In 2004, he took over the managerial job, a position he held until 2011. As the White Sox manager, Guillen went 678-617.<\/p>\n

2005 World Series Championship<\/h3>\n

Guillen’s second season as Sox manager saw him lead the team to the a World Series championship. Furthermore, it was the organization’s first since 1917.<\/p>\n

The White Sox dominated the postseason<\/a> in 2005. Their championship run started by sweeping the defending-champion Boston Red Sox in the Division Series before beating the Los Angeles Angels in five games in the Championship Series. The loss to the Angels in the series was their only one of the postseason.<\/p>\n

In the World Series, the White Sox played the Houston Astros, a team appearing in their first World Series. The games were close, but behind Guillen’s leadership and on-field heroics, the White Sox swept the Astros to win the title.<\/p>\n
