It looks like the strongest rookie class the sport has seen in quite some time. Griffin’s debut series this weekend could make that case even stronger.

Plus, every year, some prospects aren’t on the early-season timeline. Their organizations might want them to get half a season in the minors to iron out some wrinkles before getting the call. Some aren’t expected to land until next season, but will perform so well throughout the year that they’ll force their organization’s hand to bring them up this year.

These late-season call-ups don’t always hit; see Jackson Holliday in 2024 or Jac Caglianone last year. But when they do, they can make a huge impact in the playoff push for professional teams and fantasy managers alike.

These are the top prospects to watch, stash, and/or add proactively before their likely debuts this year.

Fantasy Baseball: Prospects to Watch For Later This Season

Travis Bazzana, Cleveland Guardians, 2B

Bazzana may be the next member of the top 20 prospects in baseball to get the call. The Guardians took him first overall in the 2024 draft after a dominant college career at Oregon State. An oblique injury held him back in his first professional season, but there’s an immediate path to playing time with a strong start to 2026.

Bazzana has a similar profile to McGonigle. He’s very disciplined and rarely chases outside the zone. His swing is quick and compact, and he’s strong at making contact to all parts of the field. He has good pop and the ability to launch balls to his pull side. Speed is there as well, and a 20/20 profile with potential for more is on the table right away.

A Travis Bazzana triple, anyone? 🤩

Bazz’s second hit of the night puts him in scoring position! pic.twitter.com/ayiGPgLI2Z

— GuardsInsider (@GuardsInsider) March 28, 2026

Bazzana isn’t an elite defender, but the Guardians badly need offense, and second base is one of their biggest offensive holes. There’s been some talk about moving Bazzana to the outfield, and one of the corner outfield slots could be his if the Guardians insist on keeping Rocchio at second for his defense. Regardless, they will make room for his bat, and there’s no reason for them to wait beyond June if he’s playing well at Triple-A.

Should Bazzana get the call, he’s worth a roster spot for all fantasy managers. While not as big a hitting prospect as McGonigle, he can put up similar numbers, albeit on a much worse offense.

Colt Emerson, Seattle Mariners, SS

Colt Emerson pushed for the Mariners’ opening day roster, but ultimately lost the 2B battle to Cole Young. However, Emerson just signed a $95 million extension, which indicates he’ll be with the big club sooner than later.

Still just 20 years old, Emerson is considered one of the best pure hitters in the minors. He takes tons of walks and doesn’t hurt himself by chasing out of the strike zone often. His hit tool is more revered than his power, but he’s tapped into more power as he’s matured and could grow into 20+ home run territory. He hits the ball hard to all fields and has plus speed, giving him tons of extra-base potential. That leaves second and third, but the M’s already gave Young the nod over Emerson at second, and signed Brendan Donovan in the offseason to play third.

Still, Emerson seems to have little to prove at the minor-league level. The Mariners are likely to find a way to get him into the lineup sooner than later, and fantasy managers should be ready when they do.

Max Clark, Detroit Tigers, OF

Max Clark may have made headlines for the wrong reasons in spring training, but he’s still one of the most talented prospects in the game. He figures to make his way into the Tigers’ lineup after the all-star break.

Clark’s plus-plus speed is his biggest asset, but the rest of his offensive profile grades out above average, too. He has great plate discipline and makes good swing decisions, giving him a strong OBP and table-setter profile. He made adjustments to his swing last year to put more balls in the air and projects for solid power. He’s also a fantastic outfield defender, which gives him an easy path to playing time with Parker Meadows‘ offensive profile still underdeveloped.

Should Clark get the call, he’d give fantasy managers instant value in steals and runs on a good offense. Whether or not his OBP and discipline abilities immediately translate against major-league pitching would be the question. If they do, he’s a five-category producer that could make a huge difference down the stretch, adding him to the list of prospects to watch for fantasy.

Walker Jenkins, Minnesota Twins, OF

Injuries have held Walker Jenkins back from progressing through the Twins’ system on schedule, but this is likely the year he breaks through.

Jenkins has plus power and a positive hitting profile as well. He best displays his power to the pull side, but can hit opposite field for extra base hits as well. He’s disciplined and keeps strikeouts down, and can hit lefties well, but not for as much power. Jenkins also has above-average speed and good instincts on the basepaths.

The Twins are not expected to compete this year, but they have room for Jenkins in their outfield. He’s been a good center fielder in the minors, but would work well as a plus-athlete in a corner position as well. The Twins’ handling of their prospects is often murkier than that of other organizations, but the wait for Jenkins has been long enough. He should be up by mid-season and has the potential to contribute right away for fantasy managers.

Thomas White and Robby Snelling, Miami Marlins SPs

The Marlins have two big-time pitching prospects ready to make the jump to the majors this year. His fastball hits 99 with plenty of carry and arm-side run. He once featured a curveball but has transitioned to a filthy slider with tons of movement. His changeup has gotten better every year and neutralizes righty hitters with ease. He struck out 38% of batters last year, third in the minors. His fastball can touch 100 and stands out more for its command and carry than overall life. He works a couple of versions of a slider and a changeup that fades at times and tumbles at others. His background as a linebacker in high school shows on the mound, with an aggressive mindset and strong frame. His upside is potentially lower than White’s, but his floor may be higher.

Both pitchers are expected to debut at some point this season, but this is a crowded Marlins’ rotation. As mentioned, he chases way too much out of the zone and struggles against off-speed pitches. He struggled in his first run with the Giants last year, but his average exit velocity sat in the range of Aaron Judge and Oneil Cruz, demonstrating his power potential despite the lack of results.

The Giants’ offense looks flat early in the year, and badly needs an upgrade to their lineup. Eldridge needs to demonstrate some improved discipline before the Giants will give him that chance. When he does get it, his power can change the dynamic of the Giants’ lineup, and fantasy managers could immediately reap the benefits.

Braden Montgomery, Chicago White Sox, OF

Braden Montgomery looks to join a young White Sox team that has some flickers of hope for the first time in a few years. When he does get the call, he might have more potential than any of those already on the big club.

Montgomery was once regarded as a below-average power bat, but that’s changed in a hurry. He is now most notable for plus-plus raw power as a product of lightning-fast bat speed. A switch-hitter, he was much more effective from the left side in college, but improved his righty stroke drastically last year. He’s not overly aggressive out of the zone, but selectivity is the area where he most needs improvement. There’s room for him in the outfield, especially considering his arm strength, which is as impressive as his power. The White Sox have something cooking, and while it may take a few years to develop them into a contender, fantasy managers should take advantage of Montgomery’s skill set the moment he’s called up.

Ryan Waldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks, OF

Ryan Waldschmidt has soared through the Diamondbacks’ minor league system and had an outside chance at the Opening Day roster. He’s likely to get called up late this year and would be joining a loaded Athletics offense if he does.

Aidan Miller, Phillies SS: Aidan Miller‘s biggest challenge remains finding a place to play in a crowded infield. Trea Turner isn’t going anywhere at short, Miller’s natural position, and Stott seems unlikely to get pushed off second either. That means the long-speculated trade of Alec Bohm may have to take place, unless the Phils plan to shift Miller to the outfield. That conundrum alone will likely keep him in the minors until the second half.
