At Citi Field, that has already led to boos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: 610px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOB0Ikiysi3\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5472px; aspect-ratio: 5472\/3648;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Bo Bichette Acknowledges Struggles in Mets&#8217; Opening Series<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a 4\u20133, 10-inning series finale loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, the Mets came up short in a game that highlighted missed opportunities at the plate. Bichette, in particular, endured a difficult afternoon, going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts, and 1-for-14 with eight strikeouts through the first three games. In a performance that drew noticeable frustration from the home crowd, Bichette agreed with it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf anything, I thought it took too long,\u201d Bichette said when addressing the reaction. \u201cBut I mean, I get it. I thought my at-bats were terrible, too.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rather than deflecting, Bichette has been upfront about the need to deliver early on.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI didn\u2019t anticipate it, but I definitely felt that wanting to have a moment, not only for my teammates but for the fans and everything,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s just something I have to manage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>And yes, we are only three games into the season, but for Bichette, pointing to the calendar is not good enough.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think regardless of new team, new city, I\u2019ve struggled at times in my career before and have to get to that point,\u201d Bichette said. \u201cIt\u2019s early, but also there hasn\u2019t been much to be happy about with what I\u2019ve done so far\u2026 need to figure some things out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Bo Bichette was asked if the boos at Citi Field caught him off-guard at all:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If anything, I thought it took too long. I get it. One of his strongest supporters has been teammate <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindofr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-03-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Francisco Lindor<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe\u2019s one of the best hitters in the game. He\u2019s going to have a lot of big moments for us,\u201d Lindor said. \u201cThis is only normal and we\u2019re all on board with him. We know what kind of hitter he is. He\u2019s going to execute. He\u2019s going to come through more than he fails, so I can\u2019t wait for him to get going.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But questions prior to the season were never about Bichette&#8217;s offense; it was about his defense. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/01\/16\/mets-strike-back-sign-bo-bichette-to-126m-deal\/\" target=\"_self\">Bichette was signed<\/a> to be the everyday third baseman after playing shortstop in all seven years with the Toronto Blue Jays.<\/p>\n<p>He didn&#8217;t help his case, however, when he made a bad throw that pulled <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/12\/13\/mets-sign-jorge-polanco-two-year-deal\/\" target=\"_self\">first baseman<\/a> <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/polanjo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-03-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jorge Polanco<\/a> off the bag, which resulted in an error on Saturday. But on Sunday, he didn&#8217;t let that get to him and showed he can handle the hot corner.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cI may have rushed a little bit yesterday on a play, but overall pretty good,\u201d he said regarding how he&#8217;s felt early on in his new position. \u201cI just look to keep working and getting better.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBo is a little bit more quiet when it comes to the defensive side. It\u2019s been great. He made great plays today,\u201d Lindor said. \u201cThe catch in the outfield was good, to close the inning throwing to second base was really good. He\u2019s excelling. He\u2019s doing his thing. He looks good.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s two versions of your &#8220;welcome to New York&#8221; moment. Unlike <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/roberlu01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-03-30_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luis Robert Jr.<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/03\/28\/mets-hidden-advantage-behind-luis-robert-jr-walk-off\/\" target=\"_self\">heroic moment<\/a>, Bichette got the version no one wants. In a market like New York, the pressure to produce comes quickly.
