Jonah Tong<\/a> is a star in the making for the New York Mets. The 22-year-old, seemingly a Tim Lincecum<\/a> clone, has shown he has the potential to be the next big thing in the Mets’ rotation. However, after a lackluster spring training, where he posted a 7.71 ERA in seven innings, they decided to send him down<\/a> to begin the season. There wasn’t much room for Tong in this rotation at the moment. At least the Mets saw it that way. The assumption is he will be back up in the majors at some point this season, but when, and in what type of role?<\/p>\n

Speculating When Jonah Tong Could Rejoin the Mets This Season<\/h2>\n

A Hot Start at Triple-A<\/h2>\n

Tong got to work right away after he was sent down to Triple-A. He was named the opening day starter for the Syracuse Mets. He turned in four shutout innings along with four strikeouts in a 3-1 Mets victory. This is a good start to his season so far. It is only one game, so it doesn’t hold much weight, but it is promising for the young star going forward. Tong needs to keep having outings like this. If he does, he should be back up in the majors in a few months. Even if he turns out to have a bad season in Triple-A, the Mets can always hold off and bring him up next season.<\/p>\n
