This is typically when you get a ton of awards predictions. So, we will follow suit with some prognostications based on statistical analysis, recent trends, and middle-aged intuition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some awards predictions for the 2026 MLB season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Some 2026 MLB Awards Predictions<\/h2>\n<h3><b>2026 Managers of the Year<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3><b>American League: Mark Kotsay<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/OAK\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Athletics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been in a tough fix the last few years. After leaving their long-time home of Oakland, they are temporarily using a minor league stadium in Sacramento until their new residence is ready in Las Vegas. On top of that, the A\u2019s are not known for luxurious spending. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/kotsama01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mark Kotsay<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has had to manage through this tenuous situation and has performed quite admirably. The team\u2019s record has improved considerably over the last two seasons, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/athletics-2026-opening-day-roster\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they have a promising young lineup<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Expect the A\u2019s to challenge for a wild card spot in 2026 seriously, and that should make Mark Kotsay the American League Manager of the Year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>National League: Tony Vitello<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How will the first-ever manager to go directly from college to MLB without any pro experience fare in the Show? This writer sees <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/10\/22\/report-giants-hire-new-skipper\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tony Vitello<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> being the National League Manager of the Year in 2026. The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/SFG\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Francisco Giants<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and team president <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/poseybu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buster Posey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are taking a chance with this former head coach of the Tennessee Vols, but they are giving him <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/giants-2026-opening-day-roster\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a solid roster<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for his maiden voyage in the Bay. Yes, the NL West may be the toughest division in baseball, yet the Giants should be squarely in the mix for a playoff ticket. If they punch that ticket, it is a good bet Tony Vitello wins the NL Manager of the Year award.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2026 Rookies of the Year<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3><b>American League: Kevin McGonigle<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/DET\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detroit Tigers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have roared back to MLB relevance over the last two years, spurred on by some spectacular pitching. This year, they are going to inject more offense into the fold with Kevin McGonigle,\u00a0one of the game&#8217;s top prospects<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Many didn\u2019t see this shortstop from the Philadelphia suburbs making the Opening Day roster for Detroit, but his strong spring training has left the team with a tough decision. Even if McGonigle doesn\u2019t come north with the big squad, it shouldn\u2019t be long before he is on the left side of the infield in the Motor City. After hitting above .300 in each of the last three seasons in the minors, this prodigy is in a prime position to snag the AL Rookie of the Year in 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>National League: Sal Stewart<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a brief audition for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/CIN\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cincinnati Reds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last season, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stewasa02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sal Stewart<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> showed why he is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/milb\/prospects\/reds\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the team\u2019s top prospect<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He hit five homers with an .839 OPS in just 18 games. Fortunately for Stewart and the team, this first baseman maintained his rookie status for this year. The Reds are in desperate need of some pop to help their strong starting rotation. Stewart, along with veteran <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/suareeu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eugenio Suarez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, can supply that in the middle of the Cincinnati order. If Sal can provide some consistent power for a team that should contend for the NL Central title, then this Red may be the National League Rookie of the Year in 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2026 Cy Youngs<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3><b>American League: Hunter Brown<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the departure of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/valdefr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Framber Valdez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownhu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hunter Brown<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is now the unquestioned ace for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/HOU\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Houston Astros<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This home-grown product has been developing each season since debuting late in 2022. Last year, he posted career-high numbers across the board: wins (12), ERA (2.43), strikeouts (206), innings (185.1), WHIP (1.025), and WAR (6.1). That resulted in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/awards\/awards_2025.shtml#all_AL_CYA_voting\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a third-place AL Cy Young finish<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That portends to an even better season for Brown in 2026. To a trained eye, that says Hunter Brown will be the American League Cy Young winner this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>National League: Cristopher Sanchez<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wheelza01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zack Wheeler<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was lost for the season last August, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sanchcr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christopher Sanchez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stepped in for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/PHI\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and did not disappoint. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/leaders\/WAR_pitch_leagues.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He led all MLB pitchers in WAR<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and garnered <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/awards\/awards_2025.shtml#all_NL_CYA_voting\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a second-place NL Cy Young spot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Since Wheeler will begin the year on IL, this Dominican lefty with the devastating changeup will start and probably finish the season as the ace of the Phils. In a loaded rotation for one of the league\u2019s perennial contenders, he seems poised to continue his ascension. This points to Cristopher Sanchez being the 2026 Cy Young winner in the National League.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2026 Most Valuable Players<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3><b>American League: Gunnar Henderson<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Could <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/judgeaa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aaron Judge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> win a third-straight American League MVP this season? That\u2019s a distinct possibility, but a prime candidate to dethrone him resides in the same division: <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hendegu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gunnar Henderson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/BAL\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Orioles\u2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shortstop is coming off a somewhat down year (if you can say that about a 5.3 WAR player). More specifically, Baltimore was a disappointment in 2025, so the team\u2019s highest-flying bird is held to account. Still only 24 as of Opening Day, Henderson should be ultra-motivated and feeling confident after <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/gunnar-henderson-home-run-united-states-2026-world-baseball-classic-semifinal\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a huge WBC moment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Those signs indicate Gunnar Henderson will be the AL MVP in 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>National League: Shohei Ohtani<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Picking someone other than <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/o\/ohtansh01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shohei Ohtani<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the 2026 National League MVP is tough. Yet, common sense and analytics prevents that. If someone hits 50+ home runs with a 1.000+ OPS and then supplements that with 120+ innings on the mound with a sub-3.00 ERA, how could that dude not be the league\u2019s most valuable player? What Ohtani has done since becoming a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/LAD\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dodger<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is truly unprecedented: for starters, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/09\/19\/dodgers-shohei-ohtani-first-ever-50-50-season\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the first 50\/50 season ever,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/shohei-ohtani-hits-three-home-runs-strikes-out-10-in-nlcs-game-4\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">maybe the greatest single-game performance anyone has ever seen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
