As the New York Yankees made more spring training cuts<\/a> on Friday, some names came as a bit of a surprise. Before their game against the Baltimore Orioles, the team optioned outfielder Jasson Dom\u00ednguez<\/a> and right-handers Kervin Castro<\/a> and Yerry De los Santos<\/a> to Triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre. New York also reassigned outfielder Kenedy Corona<\/a> and catchers Ali S\u00e1nchez<\/a> and Payton Henry<\/a> to minor league camp. Dom\u00ednguez, an experienced major leaguer, and Castro, an up-and-comer thought to have a shot at an Opening Day roster spot<\/a>, were the biggest surprises.<\/p>\n

Dom\u00ednguez often struggles to get regular playing time<\/a> with the Yankees for various reasons. If it’s not an injury, it’s an outfield traffic jam. Once the Yankees re-signed<\/a> Cody Bellinger<\/a> and retained Trent Grisham<\/a> via a qualifying offer<\/a>, Dom\u00ednguez was boxed in already this offseason.<\/p>\n

Prior to tonight\u2019s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
