Many fans are filled with optimism, while others have lots of skepticism. Wherever you stand, hopefully, you have some excitement for the upcoming 2026 season. Each year, some players end up putting up some impressive numbers who you have never heard of before. Sometimes it\u2019s a name you know that just hasn&#8217;t produced a fully impressive statistical season yet. That\u2019s when you get the term breakout season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some guys you may or may not know that could be on the brink of a breakout season this year in MLB. Let\u2019s examine the senior circuit. Who is breaking out in 2026 \u2026 National League Edition?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Kyle Stowers<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This guy broke out a bit in 2025, but <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stoweky01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyle Stowers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> seems set for a complete breakout season in 2026. A bit of a late bloomer, this 28-year-old outfielder was the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/FLA\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami Marlins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lone <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/allstar\/2025-allstar-game.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All-Star<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last season. In just 117 games, he produced a 3.6 WAR, 25 homers, 73 RBIs, and a .912 OPS. If Stowers can play 150+ games, those numbers should boost considerably. He is expected to be the linchpin in a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">better-than-you-think<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Marlins lineup. Mandatory Credit: Jonathan Dyer-Imagn Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b>CJ Abrams<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You probably first heard of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/abramcj01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CJ Abrams<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of the haul back to the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/WSN\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Washington Nationals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2022\/08\/02\/padres-trade-for-juan-soto-josh-bell-in-blockbuster-deal\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Juan Soto trade of 2022<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This toolsy shortstop has had success the last three years in DC, but a true breakout season has thus far eluded him. He is pretty much good for 20 homers, 60 ribbies, 30 stolen bases, and 30 doubles per year. This lefty has been plagued by some defensive inconsistencies and long slumps. However, there is enough talent there for this guy to win a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger. Along with <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/woodja03.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James Wood<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Washington hopes they have a franchise pillar in Abrams. Mandatory Credit: Dale Zanine-Imagn Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b>Andrew Vaughn<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once upon a Windy City time, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vaughan01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andrew Vaughn<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can\u2019t-miss<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prospect for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/CHW\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago White Sox<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/draft\/index.fcgi?year_ID=2019&amp;draft_round=1&amp;draft_type=junreg&amp;query_type=year_round\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hit 72 home runs for the South Siders from 2021 to 2024. Last June, the Sox sent Vaughn to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/MIL\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Milwaukee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after a rough start. The change of scenery helped this first baseman\/DH tremendously as he practically doubled his output in every offensive category for the Brewers. That includes a .308 batting average the last three months of 2025 and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Pzb1fKOMXLA\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two October long balls<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Jovanny Hernandez \/ Milwaukee Journal Sentinel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b>Sal Stewart<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last September the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/CIN\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cincinnati Reds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> called up <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stewasa02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sal Stewart<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the rookie launched five dingers and had an .839 OPS in only 18 games. He even added two hits and four ribbies in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/postseason\/2025_NLWC1.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Reds\u2019 short-lived playoff cameo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Stewart will start at first base for a team that is expected to contend for the National League Central title. He is definitely on the short list of NL Rookie of the Year candidates. Before joining the big squad in 2025, Sal compiled a .309 batting average with 20 homers and 80 RBIs in 118 games in Double-A and Triple-A. He has a nasty <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/baseballsavant.mlb.com\/savant-player\/brandon-pfaadt-694297?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">six-pitch arsenal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has made 32+ starts each of the last two years for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/ARI\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arizona Diamondbacks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Then you look at his career ERA (5.13) and WHIP (1.310) and scratch your head. The durability and strikeout numbers are there, but he allows a lot of hits and homers. With his stuff, it seems to only be a matter of time before he figures it out. Rebilas-Imagn Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b>Mason Miller<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I can already hear those protests \u2026 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why is <\/span><\/i><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/millema03.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mason Miller<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on this list? He is already an established star.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Yes, he is already an established star, but he really hasn&#8217;t had an elite breakout season from a saves perspective \u2026 a true benchmark for the pitcher relied on to get the 27th out. This closer for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/SDP\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Diego Padres<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Team USA regularly hits 103 on the gun and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/video\/mason-miller-strikes-out-three-to-seal-team-usa-s-win\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sits down players faster than an irritable elementary school bus driver<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but he has never had more than 28 saves in a year. That is where he should truly break out in 2026.
