On February 25, he was a late scratch from a game with \u201clower body soreness.\u201d By the next day, it was called a hamstring issue. Three days later, he returned to the lineup as a DH and hit a double and a home run. On paper, it\u2019s a minor blip. But with DeLauter, who missed extended time last season following <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/03\/04\/top-guardians-prospect-faces-surgery-expected-recovery-timeline-set\/\" target=\"_self\">sports hernia surgery<\/a>, every little thing seems like a bigger deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chase DeLauter was a late scratch from today&#8217;s Guardians lineup. Whenever he takes the field\u2014whether in college, the minors, or even his surprise postseason debut last fall\u2014he hits. Over three pro seasons, DeLauter owns a .302\/.384\/.504 slash line. In his six October at-bats, he held his own at the plate.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The problem is, the once <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2023\/08\/07\/cleveland-guardians-prospects-mlb\/\" target=\"_self\">highly-touted prospect<\/a> just hasn\u2019t played much. Since turning pro, DeLauter has only appeared in 138 games. His highest total in a single season, college or pro, is 57. Buxton averaged just 65 games a season from 2018 to 2023, but once he finally broke the 100-game mark in 2024 and 2025, he became one of baseball\u2019s best center fielders.
