Now, legit or not, every fanbase needs reasons to be excited at the start of the baseball season. Some teams are easier to come up with reasons than others, but we are going to come up with at least one totally sincere reason for each team to be excited heading into the 2026 MLB season. This is \u2026 hope springs eternal \u2026 American League West edition.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Houston Astros: Play the Hits<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you go to see your favorite band play live, you want them to play the hits. That is how you have to think if you\u2019re a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/HOU\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Houston Astros<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fan in 2026. The classics are still there: <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/penaje02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jeremy Pena<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/altuvjo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jose Altuve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/alvaryo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yordan Alvarez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/correca01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carlos Correa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Except for Altuve, they are all in their prime years. The AL West is no longer theirs to dominate, but it is still winnable with a nucleus that has brought the franchise lots of glory since 2017. If a couple of youngsters prove their mettle, that would only fortify the big names in the lineup. In the case of Alvarez, if he can stay healthy for 150+ games, he will be on the AL MVP short list. The glory years may be over, but the Astros can still play the hits, and that is a reason for optimism in Houston.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aligncenter\"><p class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 610px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBtDp4v9OP\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3992px; aspect-ratio: 3992\/3187;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/p>\n<h2><b>Athletics: Lock Them Up<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The transient <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/OAK\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Athletics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are building something special, no matter where they call home at the moment. This AL West team on the move has lots of young talent, and they are wisely locking them up to team-friendly extensions before their permanent relocation to Las Vegas. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rookebr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brent Rooker<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, sit yourself down. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/butlela01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lawrence Butler<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, here\u2019s your check. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/soderty01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyler Soderstrom<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you\u2019re not going anywhere. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wilsoja05.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jacob Wilson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, how about you stay a while?\u00a0 If the front office targets <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/langesh01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shea Langeliers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kurtzni01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nick Kurtz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> next, that would be very prudent. This team has improved in wins in the last two seasons, and that seems likely again in 2026. Whether it\u2019s in Oakland, Sacramento, or Las Vegas, locking up these young stars is a reason for optimism if you\u2019re a fan of the Athletics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aligncenter\"><p class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 610px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBb5jc7Tmy\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000\/2282;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/p>\n<h2><b>Los Angeles Angels: A Halo Ace<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/ANA\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Angeles Angels<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> haven\u2019t had a winning season since 2015. I\u2019m not saying that trend will change in 2026, but the Angels may have an ace up their sleeve in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rodrigr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grayson Rodriguez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Where in the name of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/langsma01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mark Langston<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/colonba01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bartolo Colon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have all the Halo aces gone? A once highly touted pitching prospect with the Orioles, Rodriguez has battled injuries throughout his career. The Angels were able to acquire him via trade this offseason. After missing all of 2025, Grayson starts with a clean slate in the AL West and a bunch of talent in his arm. In <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/gl.fcgi?id=rodrigr01&amp;t=p&amp;year=2024\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2024<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he gave a glimpse of the ace that was promised (a 13-4 record and 130 K\u2019s in 116.2 innings). Rodriguez will get every opportunity to be the ace for the Halos in 2026, and that is a reason for optimism for the Angels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aligncenter\"><p class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 410px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOB4NlSpFtf\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000\/2891;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Seattle Mariners: Can You Woo, Woo, Woo?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/SEA\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seattle Mariners<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had a magical season in 2025, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/woobr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bryan Woo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a big part of it. In a rotation as deep as the cast of The Godfather, Woo may be the don. In 2025, Woo was an All-Star and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/awards\/awards_2025.shtml#all_AL_CYA_voting\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fifth place finisher in the AL Cy Young vote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The last two seasons combined, this 26-year-old Californian has a 24-10 record, a 2.92 ERA, and a .9125 WHIP. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is worth noting that Woo was injured for most of the postseason before making a couple of relief appearances late in the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/postseason\/2025_ALCS.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ALCS<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Is that seven-game series different with a healthy Woo starting two games? Coming off an AL West title and a near World Series appearance, expectations are high in Seattle. Seattle fans are wondering \u2026 can Bryan <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Rgg1Yczq4vI&amp;list=RDRgg1Yczq4vI&amp;start_radio=1\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Woo, Woo, Woo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> his way into the ace role of this mighty Mariners staff? This pitcher certainly represents a reason for optimism in Seattle this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aligncenter\"><p class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 610px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBTLZrKakL\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3557px; aspect-ratio: 3557\/2372;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/p>\n<h2><b>Texas Rangers: Stallions in the Stable<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Texas, they love their horses, and the Texas <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/TEX\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rangers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have a full stable of stallions heading into the 2026 season. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/degroja01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jacob deGrom<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was healthy and returned to form in 2025. Now he is flanked by <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/eovalna01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nathan Eovaldi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also coming off an effective season. They traded for lefty strikeout specialist <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gorema01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MacKenzie Gore<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. At the back end are former first-rounders <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/leiteja01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jack Leiter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rockeku01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kumar Rocker<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, those last two are still finding their way in the Bigs, but from one to five, this rotation stacks up well against most lineups. Health will obviously play a large role in the success of this staff.
