Now, legit or not, every fanbase needs reasons to be excited at the start of the baseball season. Some teams are easier to come up with reasons than others, but we are going to come up with at least one totally sincere reason for each team to be excited heading into the 2026 Major League Baseball season. This is \u2026 hope springs eternal \u2026 American League Central edition.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Chicago White Sox: Hey, Big Spender <\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/CHW\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago White Sox<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have lost 101+ games each of the last three seasons, including a record 121 losses in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/CHW\/2024.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2024<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On the bright side, last year\u2019s 101 defeats were a 19-game improvement. With some decent young talent like <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/montgco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colson Montgomery<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/teelky01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyle Teel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithsh02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shane Smith<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this team has some hope in the AL Central. Most pleasantly, the White Sox were decent spenders this offseason. They splurged for Japanese power bat <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=muraka000mun\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Munetaka Murakami<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, closer <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dominse01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seranthony Dominguez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, outfielder <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/haysau01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Hays<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and veteran lefty starter <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/n\/newcose01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sean Newcomb<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These moves don\u2019t make the South Siders the AL Central favorites. However, they do represent a shift in culture from the previous three dreadful years. When you combine this modest amount of spending and some evolving youngsters, there is a reason for optimism if you support the White Sox.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aligncenter\"><p class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 610px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOB3w8Gk6Pp\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000\/2001;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/p>\n<h2><b>Cleveland Guardians: Love Him Up<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the most part, in this series for each team, I\u2019ve tried to avoid the most obvious reason for optimism. But &#8230; I couldn\u2019t help myself with the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/CLE\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cleveland Guardians<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/ramirjo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jose Ramirez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do-everything-for-your-team<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> third baseman is probably the least heralded star in the MLB. We could reel off his resume all day, but let\u2019s just spotlight a few superlative stats. Since 2017, Ramirez has eight top-10 or better finishes in AL MVP voting (<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/leaders\/mvp_cya.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">26th all-time in MVP Shares<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). His all-around play, energy, and charisma have helped Cleveland make the postseason seven times since 2016 with six AL Central crowns. With a career WAR of 57.6, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/leaders\/WAR_bat_active.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he is eighth on the active MLB list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ahead of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindofr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Francisco Lindor<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harpebr03.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bryce Harper<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/altuvjo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jose Altuve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/jose-ramirez-2026-extension-with-guardians\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As evidenced by Ramirez signing two team-friendly extensions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this guy loves being a Guardian, so Cleveland better love him up. Stating the obvious, having Ramirez on your team is a reason for optimism if you are a Guardians fan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aligncenter\"><p class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 610px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBLnUusolQ\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5016px; aspect-ratio: 5016\/3344;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/p>\n<h2><b>Detroit Tigers: Return of the Tiger King<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/DET\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detroit Tigers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have returned to relevance largely due to the strength of their starting pitching. Now they\u2019ve made a nostalgic acquisition to bolster that even more. By bringing back 43-year-old franchise legend <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/verlaju01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Justin Verlander<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Tigers&#8217; excitement should be magnified to a resounding roar. They are not getting the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/awards\/awards_2011.shtml#all_AL_MVP_voting\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MVP\/Cy Young version of JV<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but he still brings a lot to the table for a fifth starter. Slotting him behind <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/skubata01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tarik Skubal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/valdefr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Framber Valdez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/flaheja01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jack Flaherty<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mizeca01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Casey Mize<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> makes a lot of sense. Kate Upton\u2019s man started slow in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/gl.fcgi?id=verlaju01&amp;t=p&amp;year=2025\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2025<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but he got progressively better over the last half of the season. More important than what he gives on the mound may be the wisdom he imparts to the rest of the staff. This move works like a cold beer and an ocean view. If this is indeed Verlander\u2019s farewell tour, it\u2019s another reason for optimism in Detroit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aligncenter\"><p class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 610px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBYH1tFHhH\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2546px; aspect-ratio: 2546\/1697;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/p>\n<h2><b>Kansas City Royals: A Looming Franchise Milestone<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barring something unforeseen, a major <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/KCR\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kansas City Royals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0record will fall this season. Franchise stalwart and affable Venezuelan, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/perezsa02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salvador Perez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will become the all-time leader in home runs for the Royals. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/KCR\/leaders_bat.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salvy needs 15 homers to pass George Brett\u2019s number of 317<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Perez has quietly been one of the best catchers in MLB history: 303 home runs, nine All-Star selections, nine seasons of 21+ dingers, five Gold Gloves, five Silver Sluggers, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/mlb\/ask\/most-home-runs-in-a-single-season-by-a-catcher\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">formerly the all-time single-season record for homers by a catcher<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/postseason\/2015_WS.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a World Series MVP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He is already beloved in Kansas City, and will be immortalized when he passes another franchise luminary for a prestigious honor. Not only does Perez bring lots of joy to the Kansas City fans \u2026 he brings a reason for optimism if you follow the Royals in 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aligncenter\"><p class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 610px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBowfXaC0Z\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3600px; aspect-ratio: 3600\/3086;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p><\/p>\n<h2><b>Minnesota Twins: Something Different<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m not going to lie: it was not easy coming up with a reason for optimism for the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/MIN\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minnesota Twins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> heading into the 2026 season. Last year, they lost 92 games and traded half of their roster at the deadline. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/rocco-baldelli-dismissed-as-twins-manager\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They fired long-time manager Rocco Baldelli after the season<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The new skipper for this AL Central squad is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/sheltde99.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Derek Shelton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Shelton was the popular manager of the Pirates before being let go after a slow start in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/PIT\/2025.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2025<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If the Twins are looking for a change and a patient dugout boss, this guy fits the bill. After multiple 100-loss seasons in 2021 and 2022, he nurtured Pittsburgh to 76 wins in 2023 and 2024 with limited talent. The AL Central is not traditionally a powerhouse division, so Shelton and the Twins could turn things around faster than you think.
