This could clear some payroll space for a certain free-agent first baseman you know.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jeffrey Flanagan (@FlannyMLB) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FlannyMLB\/status\/958132532096258048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">January 30, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Royals beat writer <strong>Jeffrey Flanagan<\/strong> hinted at the fact the reasoning of this trade is to clear some payroll to sign a free-agent, that free-agent first baseman would be <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hosmeer01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Hosmer<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Kansas City Royals Trade Brandon Moss to Oakland Athletics<\/h2>\n<p>Moss made his debut with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/boston-red-sox\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Red Sox<\/a> on August 6, 2007.<\/p>\n<p>The left-handed hitter will be making his return to Oakland, Moss last played for the Athletics through the 2012-2014 seasons. Moss has played with the Red Sox (2007-2008), <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/pittsburgh-pirates\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> (2008-2010), <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/philadelphia-phillies\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philladelphia\u00a0Phillies<\/a> (2011), Athletics (2012-2014), <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/cleveland-indians\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cleveland Indians<\/a> (2015), <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/st-louis-cardinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Cardinals<\/a> (2015-2016), and lastly playing with the Kansas City Royals (2017).<\/p>\n<h2>The Numbers<\/h2>\n<p>The former Royal has spent 11 seasons in the majors so far. In 11 seasons, Moss has played in 1,016 games, has batted .237\/.314\/.452, has hit 159 doubles, 17 triples, 160 home runs, 473 runs batted in, drew 328 walks, and struck out 968 times. In his career, Moss carries a WAR of 4.8. He has an oWAR of 6.9 and a dWAR of -7.6.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan Buchter will also be heading to Oakland, and has been playing in the majors for four seasons. The lefty pitcher made his debut on June 20, 2014, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/atlanta-braves\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlanta Braves<\/a>. During his time in the majors, Buchter has a record of 8-3, has pitched 129.1 innings, has an ERA of 2.85, has earned two saves, and has struck out 144 batters. Lastly, Buchter has a WAR of 2.7 in his career.<\/p>\n<p>Jesse Hahn will be heading to Kansas City and has played in four major league seasons, three with the Oakland Athletics and one season with the San Diego Padres. He made his MLB debut on June 3, 2014, with the Padres. Hahn has appeared in 53 games (50 starts) and has a record of 18-20. The right-hander has an ERA of 4.19 and has logged 286.0 innings pitched. The former Oakland pitcher has struck out 212 batters and has a WAR of 1.7.<\/p>\n<p>Heath Fillmyer was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft. The minor league pitcher has only made it to Double-A so far in his baseball career. Fillmyer, 23, has spent four seasons in the Athletics organization. The right-handed\u00a0hurler has started in 75 games and made 84 appearances.
