{"id":112748,"date":"2026-01-23T21:09:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T02:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/?p=112748"},"modified":"2026-01-23T21:10:52","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T02:10:52","slug":"looking-at-three-blue-jays-who-will-be-key-for-offensive-production-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/01\/23\/looking-at-three-blue-jays-who-will-be-key-for-offensive-production-in-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Looking at Three Blue Jays Who Will Be Key For Offensive Production in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Toronto Blue Jays\u2019 roster appears to be set positionally for when they head to Dunedin to begin spring training. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bichebo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bo Bichette<\/a> is a New York Met; <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tuckeky01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Tucker<\/a> is a Los Angeles Dodger, and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bellico01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cody Bellinger<\/a> returned to the Bronx.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Blue Jays will return much of the core from 2025 that helped bring them to their first World Series appearance since 1993, giving fans hope that another strong season awaits. If the Blue Jays are to return as American League champions, they will need production up and down the lineup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is a look at three players, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/varshda01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daulton Varsho<\/a>, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kirkal01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alejandro Kirk<\/a>, and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bargead01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Addison Barger<\/a>, who could be key in helping the Blue Jays&#8217; offense and chase that elusive World Series title.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Three Players Who Could Play Key Roles in the Blue Jays Offense<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Daulton Varsho<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Varsho only appeared in 71 games in 2025, beginning the season on the injured list after <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/daulton-varsho-returns-to-blue-jays-after-shoulder-surgery\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">offseason shoulder surgery<\/a>. The center fielder was activated on Apr. 29 for his season debut before returning to the IL on June 1 with a left hamstring strain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In those 71 games, the 29-year-old posted a slash line of .238\/.284\/.584, blasting 20 home runs in 248 at-bats. The 20 home runs placed Varsho fourth on the team, while the outfielder\u2019s 55 RBI slotted in at seventh.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"sf-preview-content-holder\">\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: 610px;\"><smartframe-embed customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOB6zp8keMu\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4943px; aspect-ratio: 1.50015 \/ 1; --canvas-wedge-error-size: 4943; --sf-original-width: 4943; --sf-original-height: 3295; --sf-is-portrait: 0; --sf-is-landscape: 1;\" preview-mode=\"\" tabindex=\"0\"><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Varsho\u2019s numbers ranked amongst Major League Baseball\u2019s best, finishing ninth in slugging, 11th in OPS, 15th in wRC, and 14th in wRC+ for players with at least 240 at-bats, showing the value Varsho brought on the offensive side of the ball when healthy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Varsho\u2019s defensive metrics continued to shine in 2025 after winning his first Gold Glove in 2024. Varsho posted eight outs above replacement. In the center fielder\u2019s Gold Glove season, the OAA was recorded at 14. The catcher belted a career high 15 home runs, while also driving in 76 runs, which also set a new high for the 27-year-old.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/heinety01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Heineman<\/a> appears set to return as Kirk\u2019s backup in 2026, a role that the 34-year-old filled admirably. Heineman appeared in 64 games, the most of any season, and totaled career highs in hits, total bases, home runs, RBI, average, slugging, and OPS. The Blue Jays can\u2019t bank on that level of production again, as over the catcher&#8217;s final 15 games, the numbers dropped to a .135 average, .179 on-base, with zero home runs and three RBI, making Kirk\u2019s production all the more necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Bichette no longer in the Blue Jays\u2019 lineup, finding protection for <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/guerrvl02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/a> will be vital, and another strong season from Kirk could be key to sustaining run production.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the defensive side of the ball, Kirk has the Blue Jays\u2019 pitchers&#8217; trust, as shown by Kirk\u2019s American League <a  href=\"https:\/\/bluejaysnation.com\/news\/alejandro-kirk-five-blue-jays-nominated-2025-gold-glove-awards\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gold Glove nomination<\/a>. Kirk led the AL in Fielding Run Value and Blocks Above Average in 2025, while also throwing out 12 runners attempting to steal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Addison Barger<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barger took a massive step in year two of the 26-year-old\u2019s career, hitting .243 with 21 home runs and 74 RBI, finishing fourth on the team in home runs and fifth in runs batted in. After a rookie year in which Barger batted .197 with only seven home runs and 60 strikeouts in 69 games, the former sixth-round draft pick provided a thump to last year&#8217;s lineup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Showcased by Barger\u2019s grand slam during the World Series, Barger can strike fear into opposing teams\u2019 pitching, highlighted by the outfielder&#8217;s 91.7 average exit velocity. Barger really came to life during the postseason, slashing .367 with three home runs and nine RBI, to go along with a .441 OBP.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barger brings positional flexibility to the Blue Jays, having spent time at both third base and right field in 2025. His arm strength was showcased in 2025, recording nine outfield assists, tied for the ninth most in MLB. Many fans remember Apr. 18, when Barger turned in a three-outfield assist game against the Seattle Mariners after they continued to try to run on his arm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2026\/01\/03\/how-kazuma-okamoto-fits-in-toronto-as-we-open-2026\/\" target=\"_self\">Blue Jays added<\/a> third baseman <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=okamot002kaz\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kazuma Okamoto<\/a> earlier in the offseason and have Santander and Springer appearing to split right field and designated hitter duties, but as we saw in 2025, Barger\u2019s bat can be a game-changer.
