In 68 games, he had a 2.78 ERA, a 1.219 WHIP, a 3.39 SO\/W, a 8.8 SO9 and 61 strikeouts. The Cubs have been very active this off-season trying to strengthen their bullpen. In addition to re-signing Duensing, <a href=\"lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/\/2017\/12\/14\/steve-cishek-signs-team\/\" target=\"_self\">the Cubs have<\/a> signed <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cishest01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Cishek<\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/\/2017\/12\/10\/chicago-cubs-sign-brandon-morrow\/\" target=\"_self\">and<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/morrobr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon Morrow<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jon Heyman<\/strong> of FanRag Sports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/mlb\/news\/mlb-hot-stove-signings-cubs-reportedly-bring-back-brian-duensing-for-two-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also reported<\/a> that Duensing did have higher offers from other clubs, but Duensing choosing to re-sign with the Cubs indicates he wanted to return to the north side all along.<\/p>\n<h2>Career<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/minnesota-twins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Twins<\/a> drafted Brian Duensing in the third round of the 2005 Major League Baseball draft. In 2009, Duensing made his <a href=\"http:\/\/minnesota.twins.mlb.com\/news\/wrap.jsp?ymd=20090409&amp;content_id=4203250&amp;vkey=wrapup2005&amp;fext=.jsp&amp;team=away&amp;c_id=min\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major league debut<\/a> on April 10 against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/chicago-white-sox\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago White Sox<\/a>. He pitched three innings of relief, allowing two earned runs (a two-run shot from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/q\/quentca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlos Quentin<\/a><\/strong>) while striking out one. Duensing pitched well for the Twins in his rookie year. He finished 2009 with a 5-2 record in nine starts with a 3.64 ERA in 84.0 innings pitched. Duensing played in Minnesota for seven years, and finished his time there with a 41-37 record and a combined 4.13 ERA.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Duensing signed a minor league deal with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/kansas-city-royals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Royals<\/a>, but was released from his contract shortly there after. Later that year, the lefty signed a minor league contract with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/baltimore-orioles\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, and was called up on June 2.
