Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez was non-tendered by the Detroit Tigers shortly after last season. A right-handed high-leverage reliever and a left-handed hitting corner outfielder seemed more urgent. They signed the closer of their choice. It is now safe to say, with spring training weeks away, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/edmanto01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-09_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tommy Edman<\/a> will not be ready, or at least slow-walked into the beginning of the year, as he recovers from ankle surgery. In addition, super-utility man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hernaen02.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-09_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kik\u00e9 Hern\u00e1ndez<\/a>, who is expected to sign with the Dodgers at some point, will not be ready either. Hern\u00e1ndez is recovering from <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/07\/07\/dodgers-place-kike-hernandez-injured-list-recall-james-outman\/\" target=\"_self\">elbow surgery<\/a>. Finally, World Series hero <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rojasmi02.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-09_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miguel Rojas<\/a> is not an everyday player.<\/p>\n<h3>The New Addition<\/h3>\n<p>For his part, Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez will strengthen the Los Angeles defense in the diamond. The 32-year-old has spent time at second and third base. He is a right-handed batter and hits for a .258 average. He has been a major leaguer for five years. Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez is out of options, so if the Dodgers are to keep him, they have to find a spot on the 40-man roster. Before his time with Detroit, Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez was with the Texas Rangers.<\/p>\n<h3>Not Done Yet<\/h3>\n<p>The Dodgers&#8217; roster seems crowded.
