Injuries played a role on both sides and reshaped the Astros offense for the foreseeable future.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Houston lost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/alvaryo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yordan Alvarez<\/a> for three months to a nagging hand fracture before he missed the rest of the season with a sprained ankle. The Astros also lost <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/12\/10\/astros-trade-key-outfielder-jake-meyers\/\" target=\"_self\">outfielder<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=meyerja02,meyers003jak&amp;search=Jake+Meyers&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Meyers<\/a> and infielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/penaje02.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremy Pe\u00f1a<\/a> towards the end of the year.<\/p>\n<h2>The Latest Offseason Update on Isaac Paredes<\/h2>\n<p>Infielder <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paredis01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Isaac Paredes<\/a> enjoyed a very successful first half of 2025 after the Astros acquired him in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tuckeky01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Tucker<\/a> trade. Paredes emerged as one of the stars on offense for Houston at third base and had a .259 average and .829 OPS before his severe hamstring injury on July 19.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He was the best hitter on the Astros at that time. Paredes could not return to 100% health due to the severity of his injury, with the hamstring completely torn. It was expected that Paredes would be out for the rest of the season, and the Astros made corresponding moves at the trade deadline. Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-Imagn Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Paredes\u2019 Situation Post Trade Deadline<\/h3>\n<p>The reason for that was that Correa agreed to move to third base in Paredes\u2019 absence, and he played at a Gold Glove level at that position in Houston after the deadline. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/09\/19\/astros-isaac-paredes-activated-before-crucial-stretch-run\/\" target=\"_self\">Paredes heroically came back<\/a> in late September for the potential postseason push despite not being at 100%, basically playing on one leg. He would only bat as the designated hitter and somehow still provided offensive production.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 All-Star\u2019s injury sparked offseason concerns, as reports questioned whether Paredes would be fully healthy for spring training.\u00a0Astros general manager Dana Brown quickly dismissed <a  href=\"https:\/\/climbingtalshill.com\/astros-provide-isaac-paredes-injury-update-that-offers-subtle-hint-about-his-future-01kc0013s0z7\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">those concerns<\/a>, stating Paredes is expected to be a full go at spring training, as well as Alvarez.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Winter Ball for Paredes<\/h3>\n<p>Earlier this week, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported that Paredes will make his winter ball debut. That update indicates Paredes is healing ahead of time and may already be close to 100%. The recovery trajectory is looking ahead of schedule, and Paredes appears ready to handle an infield role in 2026.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Isaac Paredes is making his winter ball debut tonight, which would seem to indicate a full recovery from his hamstring strain. He was on pace for one of the best seasons of his career. The good news is that he is<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=parede000isa\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> looking great<\/a> in the Mexican Pacific Winter League. The Hermosillo, Mexico native has played in four games so far, posting a .300 average and .888 OPS.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Paredes\u2019 Future with the Astros<\/h3>\n<p>Where Paredes fits defensively remains a major question. With Correa now anchoring third base at a high level, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/altuvjo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jose Altuve<\/a> likely spending more time at second, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=walkech02,walker008chr&amp;search=Christian+Walker&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christian Walker<\/a> at first, Houston faces an infield surplus. Someone will have to move or be traded. It will either be Paredes or Walker.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Trade discussions have surfaced around Paredes, and<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.crawfishboxes.com\/houston-astros-analysis\/71484\/paid-or-trade-isaac-paredes\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> his value continues to rise<\/a> due to his swift recovery. Considering his contract, trading him would be more challenging. Paredes is under team control for a few more years at a projected $10 million for this season. While the proposition of trading Paredes might be intriguing due to what the Astros might get back, it appears unlikely they will move on from him.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Brown and the Astros seem confident in his return and contribution to the team in 2026. Paredes could likely split time with Altuve at second base, especially if Altuve will still be contributing in left field, or take over first if Walker is actually traded.
