Following comments from Seattle Mariners General Manager Justin Hollander saying there is \u201ccertainly a chance\u201d of a return, Seattle\u2019s interest in re-signing Eugenio Su\u00e1rez<\/a> has come back into focus. Speaking after one of the few remaining third-base options came off the board when Mutenaka Murakami<\/a> signed with the Chicago White Sox<\/a>, Hollander spoke glowingly of the free agent and former Mariner.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love Geno.\u00a0 Geno brings a ton not just on the field, the things that people see\u2026but off the field,\u201d Hollander said on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.<\/a>\u00a0 \u201cHis steady presence, great makeup, [and] what he brings to a clubhouse every day, it\u2019s really hard to replicate.\u00a0 So we\u2019ve maintained contact with Geno\u2019s reps all winter long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mariners GM: “Certainly a Chance of Eugenio Su\u00e1rez Returning to Seattle<\/h2>\n

The Mariners’ lineup, as it stands, is light to say the least, in addition to questions over starters at third<\/a> and second base<\/a>. They were able to secure their highest priority in re-signing Josh Naylor<\/a>, but with Jorge Polanco<\/a> signing with the New York Mets<\/a>, the gaps are starting to show. While the consensus was Su\u00e1rez<\/a> would return as the Mariners’ everyday third baseman, it might be more likely that he becomes the primary DH who can fill in at an infield position when needed, as Polanco did last season.<\/p>\n
