Connor Wong<\/a> was drafted last June by the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> and is ranked at #25 currently on the top 30<\/a> prospects list. One of many, high-talented and athletic catchers now in the Dodgers organization. Many compare Wong to the Dodgers current backstop, Austin Barnes<\/a>. Selected in the third-round, Connor Wong was the 100th overall pick in the draft.<\/p>\n

After one AB in Rookie Ball at Arizona, Wong played in Great Lakes for the majority of the season. His Manager, a former catcher, Jeremy Rodriguez<\/a> describes Wong as, “really raw, but very smart behind the plate.” The athletic talent from Houston had not one, but two excellent sources for catching information. His Manager and Assistant Coach Fumi Ishibashi<\/a> both formerly wore the “tools of ignorance.” Rodriguez explained a bit more about Wong’s attitude with this statement, “he struggled at first on receiving and knowing the opposing hitters, he made it a point to work every day with Fumi and became a real student of the game.”<\/p>\n

It will be exciting to see a full season in professional baseball from Wong. Last year, in a limited sampling size, Wong batted .278 in 27 games with the Loons. He had 98 official at-bats with 27 hits, six doubles, and five home runs during that span.<\/p>\n

Connor Wong – 2018 & Beyond<\/h2>\n

There is seemingly a sea of prospect catchers in the Dodgers organization at the moment. Three catchers currently on the 40-man, Kyle Farmer<\/a>, Barnes and Yasmani Grandal<\/a>, leaves little room for advancement in the system. Will Smith<\/a> and Keibert Ruiz<\/a> are also highly rated catching prospects in the Dodgers organization. Wong is likely to play most of the 2018 season at High-A ball in Rancho Cucamonga. His development and learning behind, and at the plate, will continue under the watchful eye of Manager Drew Saylor<\/a> for the Quakes.<\/p>\n
