His Manager, a former catcher, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=rodrig002jer\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremy Rodriguez<\/a> describes Wong as, &#8220;really raw, but very smart behind the plate.&#8221; The athletic talent from Houston had not one, but two excellent sources for catching information. His Manager and Assistant Coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/bullpen\/Fumi_Ishibashi\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fumi Ishibashi<\/a> both formerly wore the &#8220;tools of ignorance.&#8221; Rodriguez explained a bit more about Wong&#8217;s attitude with this statement, &#8220;he struggled at first on receiving and knowing the opposing hitters, he made it a point to work every day with Fumi and became a real student of the game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It will be exciting to see a full season in professional baseball from Wong. Last year, in a limited sampling size, Wong batted .278 in 27 games with the Loons. Three catchers currently on the 40-man, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/farmeky01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Farmer<\/a>, Barnes and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/grandya01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yasmani Grandal<\/a>, leaves little room for advancement in the system. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=smith-075wil\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Will Smith<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=ruiz--000kei\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keibert Ruiz<\/a> are also highly rated catching prospects in the Dodgers organization.
