The Texas Rangers have traded<\/a> veteran infielder Marcus Semien<\/a> to the New York Mets for outfielder Brandon Nimmo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brandon Nimmo Provides Veteran Experience for Rangers Outfield<\/h2>\n

Where Nimmo Will Slot In<\/h3>\n

The Rangers non-tendered Adolis Garc\u00eda<\/a> a couple of days ago, so that opens up a spot for Nimmo to slide into one of the corner outfield spots. Wyatt Langford<\/a> is the only returning outfielder who is locked into a spot for 2026. He can hold down center field if needed. The other returning options include Evan Carter<\/a>, Michael Helman<\/a>, Ezequiel Duran<\/a>, and Josh Smith<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nimmo can likely slot in towards the top of the lineup, probably as the leadoff guy in front of Corey Seager<\/a> and Langford. Nimmo is an upgrade from Semien offensively. He slashed .262\/.324\/.436 with 25 home runs and 92 RBI, along with 13 stolen bases. Those are all upgrades from Semien, who slashed .230\/.305\/.364 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI, along with 11 stolen bases.<\/p>\n

Despite Nimmo leading in the offensive categories, Semien has put up 3.3 WAR compared to Nimmo’s 2.9. So Semien is the better defender. The Rangers won the team Gold Glove Award, so they will trade the defense for some more offense.<\/p>\n

Due to Nimmo’s weak defense, Evan Carter will probably be the last outfielder to join Langford and Nimmo in the outfield. Langford has played center and played it well, but his arm is not the strongest. Carter doesn’t have the strongest arm in the league, but it is better than Langford’s and allows the latter to fly around in one of the corner outfield spots.<\/p>\n

Nimmo will probably go to left field to hide his poor defense, and Langford will take over for\u00a0Garc\u00eda in right field.<\/p>\n
