Bregman was one of the more feared hitters in Houston&#8217;s powerhouse lineup and was a Gold Glove fielder at third base, winning the award in 2024. It was clear after that season, though, that the Astros would be unable to retain his services, and he hit free agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>2025 with Boston<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bregman <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2025\/02\/12\/alex-bregman-red-sox\/\" target=\"_self\">signed with the Red Sox<\/a> in February, with the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs the other finalists in the sweepstakes. Bregman was solid in his first year in Boston, posting a .273 average with 18 home runs and 62 RBI.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The veteran&#8217;s defense has quietly become one of his calling cards, especially in the last few seasons as his offensive profile settled into a more balanced, contact-driven approach. While he entered the league viewed primarily as a bat-first infielder, he developed into a metrics-backed, fundamentally sharp defender at third base, finally taking home hardware in his last year with Houston.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bregman brought more than just his bat to the Sox; his veteran presence was essential. He has missed time in both the 2024 and 2025 seasons with a quadriceps injury. For a team looking for a long-term option at third base, they likely won\u2019t pay top-tier money for someone who is injury-prone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, Bregman has many suitors for teams needing a solid veteran presence, including the New York Mets, the Cubs, and the Red Sox, among others.
