{"id":10879,"date":"2017-12-29T15:58:38","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T20:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/\/?p=10879"},"modified":"2017-12-29T15:58:38","modified_gmt":"2017-12-29T20:58:38","slug":"wade-davis-signs-colorado-rockies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2017\/12\/29\/wade-davis-signs-colorado-rockies\/","title":{"rendered":"Wade Davis Signs With Colorado Rockies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/colorado-rockies\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Rockies<\/a> continue their bullpen restructuring with the signing of former <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/chicago-cubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Cub<\/a> closer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/daviswa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wade Davis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/source-wade-davis-agrees-52-million-deal-rockies-adding-one-expensive-bullpens-ever-155534971.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported three-year deal<\/a>, as clubs have not confirmed, is for $52 million.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Wade Davis Career Profile<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Davis was originally drafted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/tampa-bay-rays\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Rays<\/a>\u00a0in 2004, and would make his big league debut in 2009.\u00a0 He was used as a starter until being transitioned to the bullpen in 2012.\u00a0 That off-season would see Davis be a part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/shielja02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">James Shields<\/a> trade to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/kansas-city-royals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kansas City Royals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Davis was moved back to the rotation in 2013, but would start to find success in 2014 by being moved back to the bullpen, and being a contributor to the Royals AL Championship run.\u00a0 In what would be the first of his three All-Star seasons, Davis was named the everyday closer in 2015.\u00a0 With eight appearances in the postseason, Davis did not give up a run, and nailed down the Royals victory in the World Series.\u00a0 In 2016 Davis would save 27 games for the Royals, but was still traded to the Cubs in December, as they were looking to replace the departing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/chapmar01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aroldis Chapman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Davis continued improving upon his strikeout and save totals in his first National League season, but saw an increase in his ERA.\u00a0 Also his postseason numbers took a hit as, despite a total of four saves (including three in the NLDS), his ERA was 4.15 and 4.50 in the NLDS and NLCS respectively.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Impact of The Signing<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Davis will be put into the closer role, replacing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hollagr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greg Holland<\/a> who declined a contract option and is now a free agent.\u00a0 This is now the third major piece to the bullpen corps for the Rockies, following the signing of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/shawbr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bryan Shaw<\/a> and the resigning of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcgeeja01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake McGee<\/a> earlier in the winter.\u00a0 Davis will be reunited with pitching coach <strong>Steve Foster<\/strong>, who was in the Royals when Davis joined the club.\u00a0 He and Rockies manger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/blackbu02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bud Black<\/a> were reportedly key recruiters of Davis.<\/p>\n<p>Main Photo<br \/>\n<a id=\"tqaIlrJTQDZ_H93t-10roQ\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7;
