Mandatory Credit: Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Dombrowski&#8217;s Comments Fuel Bryce Harper Trade Speculation<\/h2>\n<h3>Harper&#8217;s Time in Philly<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harpebr03.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bryce Harper<\/a> signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2019\/02\/28\/free-agent-bryce-harper-signs-phillies\/\" target=\"_self\">13-year, $330 million deal<\/a> with the Phillies in 2019, with the contract running through the 2031 season, with the expectation that Harper would help bring the Phillies over the top and win their first championship since 2008. It has yet to happen. The Phillies reached the World Series in 2022, losing to the Houston Astros in six games, and have taken steps back since then.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe\u2019s still a quality player,\u201d Dombrowski said. \u201cHe\u2019s still an All-Star-caliber player. He didn\u2019t have an elite season like he\u2019s had in the past. And I guess we only find out if he becomes elite or he continues to be good.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen I think of Bryce Harper, you think elite, right? You think one of the top-10 players in baseball, and I don\u2019t think it fits into that category. But, again, very good player.\u201d Dombrowski added.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Issues in Philly<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MLB insider Joel Sherman of the New York Post went on his weekly podcast, \u201c<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL21wVx89S3lzfxlclRv65LHRSQq2_z8ns&amp;si=t7u5IwBCMA61P8AM\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pinstripe Post<\/span><\/a>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d\u00a0 talking about the New York Yankees&#8217; offseason, and brought up the idea that the Phillies could trade Bryce Harper this offseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWould I be 100% shocked if Bryce Harper got traded this offseason? The superstar reportedly feels he\u2019s underpaid relative to his value and impact. That frustration, according to Sherman, could be creating tension between Harper and the Phillies\u2019 front office, especially as the team faces another pivotal offseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Harper&#8217;s Future<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not hard to imagine teams like the Yankees monitoring the situation closely, depending on how the rest of the offseason unfolds. If the Yankees strike out on other big names, Harper could become an intriguing target. Despite a slight dip in his 2025 production, Harper\u2019s track record suggests he\u2019s poised for a bounce-back year in 2026, particularly if he enters the season fully healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, a Bryce Harper trade still feels unlikely\u2014at least this winter. The Phillies remain committed to competing, but a Harper trade would at least make financial and roster sense. The organization is likely to prioritize re-signing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/schwaky01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-10-22_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Schwarber<\/a>, a move that will require a significant financial commitment.
